I have another gold question. How can you buy it within a retirement account (like 401k) but keep physical ownership of it? Say I go down to a coin shop and buy $5k in gold coins, how do I apply that as a 401k deposit, if that’s even possible?

As for experience, Obama rhetorts with ‘Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld were two of the most experienced politicians this country has ever known. And look where that got us.’ This government needs to be destroyed and rebuilt. You don’t do that with experience. You do that with fresh ideas and beliefs.
Also, wasn’t Lincoln a junior senator when he was elected? I could be wrong on that, but that’s not a lot of experience either. Oh, and he was from Illinois too. Coincidence?
Bottom line: Experience is overrated and this country needs change.
As for the Indians? YES they should have more slots. I love going to the casino to kill a couple hours. I was really bummed a couple years ago with that failed prop to allow them REAL craps and roulette machines, not this half-assed “card craps” or whatever they went with instead. And, yah, we haven’t even payed them for all this land yet.

afx114ParticipantI too was wondering about gold as a currency in apocalyptic terms. No I don’t believe the apocalypse is coming, but I’m interested in an academic or sci-fi fiction type of way. How would that work? Say paper money becomes worthless, you have a handful of bullion coins, and you want to go buy some food from someone that happens to have it. Do you melt down your bullion into your own chunks or coins of gold? Is it better to have 1 Oz coins (currently going for around $900 each) or go for the smaller say 1/10th Oz coins (currently going for around $100 each). I don’t think I’d want to buy a bag of rice for 1 Oz of gold, but would it come to that?
How would Piggingtons hedge against the apocalypse with gold? Store a handful of bullion in a safe in your closet in case all your money in the bank is wiped out? How much would be enough to last a couple months?
I will reiterate that I am asking these from an academic standpoint. No I do not believe the apocalypse is coming anytime soon.

afx114ParticipantOh, another strip-mall Sushi spot I recommend is Tori Tori in University Heights. I believe it’s owned and operated by a Japanese family. It’s near the intersection of Park and El Cajon Blvd, right next to “The Boulevard” sign. It’s in the little strip mall with the 7-11…
