ParticipantYou could go with the Howie Mandel knuckle-bump.

ParticipantWhenever I receive a too-firm handshake I assume the person is insecure and using their firmness to compensate. Kinda like nutz on a lifted truck. If you have to work so hard to prove how tough or serious you are, you probably aren’t that tough or serious.

ParticipantI used to think that when I was getting change back from a retailer who was Asian that they were being rude by putting it on the counter, now maybe it isn’t so. I still think it is being impersonal though when eye contact is avoided, maybe that is an ethic thing too however, because when bowing I believe eye contact is not maintained, unless bowing before a fight. P.S.- I generally don’t initiate a handshake but will not generally shirk from one as germs are what make our immune system strong.

ParticipantSomehwere out there is a compromise- a happy medium between a bow and a fullbody chest-to-chest genital-to-genital hug.

ParticipantI like hugging or at least a shoulder pat.

I give cashiers deep tongue kisses.September 6, 2012 at 7:06 PM #751212spdrun
ParticipantI prefer to goose-step up to the other person and give a Fascist salute. No namby-pamby bowing or handshaking for me, no way.

ParticipantYou should try to shake hands as often as possible, it’s an immune boosting exercise.
Well, I guess that assumes you have a healthy immune system, if not; go asian style.

Participantbriansd1 – is there something wrong with your immune system or are you OCD? It’s got to be one or the other.

Participanti dont know. people are gross. that hand has likely been some nasty places. not sure they could wash it well enough. that’s why i prefera general hug

A mild case of OCD. I’m a perfectionist and want everything clean. Some people I don’t to shake hands with, but I’m obliged to when they extend their hands.
I like the kisses the way the French and Italians do it.

From a disease (as opposed to ickiness) perspective, as long as you don’t stick your fingers in your nose or eyes afterward, you should be fine. Your mouth is pretty well protected. The bigger disease risk is from inhaling sneeze and cough aerosols.
Carry a pocket size hand sanitizer; it’s better for your hands and more effective than hand washing anyway.
