I’m in total support of the 4th Amendment as it applies to traffic stops (where a citizen is believed to have been violating a traffic law).
Unfortunately, these “checkpoints” are not considered “traffic stops.” The citizens going thru them are only trying to get from Point A to Point B. They are a byproduct of 9/11 and the “war on drugs.” Thus, the HSO’s don’t typically ask to see the driver’s registration and proof of insurance. They’re looking for certain things, and “profiling” is the way they do it.
Got a complaint that you were treated “unreasonably” at one of these “checkpoints?” Write your Congressman/woman :=!

January 24, 2011 at 3:56 PM #657609no_such_realityParticipantSo are DUI checkpoints an abuse?
As for me supporting law enforcement, na. This news story should scare the ____ out of you. The last thing we need is that group getting paranoid. Police Fear War on Cops!
And of course, my original question, if the vast majority of perpetrators in an area match a demographic how can an effective screening process not look and seem biased?
