Does anyone have any thoughts on how to go about finding a good rental in these areas given that is what we’ll do for the first year? I’ve used Craigslist, Trulia, Zillow, Californiamoves and lots of Google searches but not finding a lot I like. I’ve also considered contacting realtors selling houses that have been on the market for a while to see if the owners would be interested in a one year lease.

You could also use it to help direct you towards websites which may cater more to those specific areas you are looking for.
