OT: Pest control: is it necessary to get the yearly deal versus do it yourselve, how about do nothing ?

flu, you CAN sign up for a yearly contract for pest control. YOU DON’T HAVE to tent fume. You can pay $700-$2,000 yr. to microwave, use Tim-Bor and other methods to fight termites and if they don’t work, your pest control co. will give you a discount on tent fume.

A pest control visit to just eradicate spiders might cost $275-$350 without a contract. Maybe that’s all you need but you need the opinion of a pest control specialist.

IMO tent fume is the only thing that is guaranteed to work. You and your family/pets/plants have to leave and your food has to be specially wrapped. Been through this several times and its WORTH IT.

Since I decided not to buy…(another thread/discussion)…I just moved(rental) to another part of town that has given us a WHOLE lot more space. We’re very happy with the new space…but with this 1/4 acre comes bug issues.

The previous renter did absolutely nothing…I mean nothing; leaf litter everywhere, bushes over grown etc.

So the bug prob. is pretty bad. Our landlord bought us a bottle of “Max. bug killing in a bottle”.

…Ok, no joke I just returned from the girls bedroom responding to the screams, due to the “huuuuge! spider crawling up the wall.

Anyhow the landlord gave me a bottle of poison that attaches to one of those bottles that attach to the hose and said it will kill termites and everything else(outdoor use only)…but I should keep the kids away for a few days. He says every couple of months keeps the spiders/ants and such away.

Will give it a try next week.

Anyone else by me as skeeved by the poisons as the bugs? I’ve been looking into orange oil for the next termite treatment… Most citrus based stuff works, and is non toxic.

Maybe I just worry that the bug poison could be as deadly as the spiders….

Honestly,…I’m as concerned as you about the toxic side of it. I dont like it.

But I guess I consider it a necessary evil, if you will.

Kinda like jet fuel…the planes gotta fly somehow, or high fructose in my Gatorade, or the “optional tax” I remember paying once at a Canadian airport to catch my connecting flight ;)(man, did that pi** me off).

But I guess I consider it a necessary evil, if you will.
