Lovely. Couldn’t he have taken the Cobain path to Nirvana rather than thinking that money buys happiness?
October 24, 2013 at 8:53 AM #767245CDMA ENGParticipantThat’s not what got me…
The fact he made a 110K a year was what shocked me!
Not that its a huge amount in the Bay but still…

The former Marine will receive retirement benefits for his 11 years of campus employment. He was being paid an annual salary of $121,680 at the time he was fired.

They completely blocked all paths the police officers could take to leave the area and were each individually warned, in advance, that they were going to be pepper sprayed if they did not allow them to pass. Then they got sprayed just as they were warned and still won $30k each.
You can’t impede the cop’s ability to leave an area. The alternative was to physically break the human chain they had created. That would have resulted in injuries.

I actaully agree with you on this point.

October 24, 2013 at 12:14 PM #767251spdrunParticipantSome cops deserve to be impeded. Too many of the blighters on a power trip out there anyway — it would do them some good to be forced to take a break, slow down, and smell the Occu-pie.

Not quite. They didn’t impeded any cop’s ability to leave the area. The videos pretty clearly show cops crossing over the line at will. In fact, the cop that sprayed the protesters easily walked over the line just seconds before he let loose with the spray. Including spraying some protesters that weren’t even on the concrete path.
October 24, 2013 at 2:29 PM #767259no_such_realityParticipantIt actually goes further than that. He deployed in riot gear, when directed not to.
He deployed with an unauthorized and unapproved for department use canister of pepper spray that is more powerful and dangerous than the pepper spray authorized for campus police.

Only minor nit on that is his own stepping over the ‘impeding’ line and the other officers escorting handcuffed people out of the circle through the openings on the ends.

Ok… that info I did not have and it does make a huge difference in the story…
That being said though the students did disobey orders and should have been spray though by an approved product…
Another two wrongs story…

Which law is it again that obligates a student to follow the orders of a law enforcement officer?
October 24, 2013 at 8:34 PM #767268spdrunParticipantI’m assuming the same law that obligates anyone to follow cops’ orders, no matter how fucking arbitrary and bizarre.

I’m pretty sure that in most circumstances, that law doesn’t exist.
October 24, 2013 at 8:37 PM #767269paramountParticipantThis case highlights perfectly (and in so many ways) what happens when one political party (and the public employee union thugs who own them) wields total power and tyranny over the citizens of that state.
Absolutely disgusting.
