We are looking at long term residence of 40+ years from today. I’d rather buy something that lasts and can be passed on – or at least lived in for many years after we pass away… (if there is such a thing here anymore).
All else being equal, a brand new house is best in my opinion. Of course, you may have to compromise on location.
A brand new house will give you at least 10 years of maintenance free living.
I just fixed my dad’s sink drain. Took me a couple hours and two trips to the hardware store for parts. What a pain!
I hate house maintenance. There are better things to do with your time.

January 19, 2011 at 12:19 PM #655896bearishgurlParticipant
ucodegen, what do you think of crosslinked PEX plumbing vs. copper?
I like the central distribution hub

That looks interesting brian. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. It merits further research.

I tend to prefer copper.. but if I was in an area subject to freezing, I would consider PEX. There are many things that you have to watch out for in PEX installations.January 19, 2011 at 12:35 PM #655967ucodegenParticipant
ucodegen, what do you think of crosslinked PEX plumbing vs. copper?
