GuestAgree.
It makes you wonder why some spend so much money working to pass Proposition 8 and similar initiatives across the country.
Where are their priorities?

ParticipantWe’re at the transition point in the US on Gay Marriage. Those under 40, and especially those under 30, are pretty supportive of it on a whole. Those over 50, and especially those over 60, are against it. It’s not that people’s opinions are changing, it’s just every funeral brings us one vote closer to catching up with the rest of the world.
Gay marriage is today’s Interracial marriage of the past. Like interracial marriage, there will be folks who are against it long after it becomes accepted by mainstream America.

Partly agree on almost all.
I wonder why the issue of gay marriage is so important that it requires a Defense of Marriage Act and constitutional amendments across the nation.
But why is Israel an issue for us? The Israelis should defend themselves and not rely on American largess. Marriage equality for all Americans is more important than Israel.
Spending time on important economic and security issues doesn’t mean we can’t make time for quality of life issues. It would be like saying “I’m too busy working and earning money that i don’t have time to get involved with my kids social lives.”

ParticipantI will not be taking advantage of legalized gay marriage, but I have no objections.
I also have no plans to practice polygamy or incest, but I would not object to either. If consenting adults want to consider themselves married I say let them, regardless of their number, sexual orientation or their common ancestors.

ParticipantAgreed. My position is “Who the hell is the govt to tell me who I can or can’t marry?”

+1. Why just gay marriage? Why not open up marriage to all? Including polygamy, incest, and bi-sexual relationships. As long as they’re all consenting adults, they all should be legal.I’d like to know how many people who support gay marriage also support polygamy? I’ll go first… I do.

ParticipantIn regard to evolution, here’s how it works.
Take a bird couple. They end up having 4 chicks. If there’s just the two parent birds, perhaps 2 of the chicks survive. Each of the surviving chicks carry 1/2 of a parent’s genes, so each bird only passes down his or her genes x1.
Now, let’s say the 4 chicks have a gay uncle bird that helps out with food gathering and defense. All of the 4 chicks survive. Each of the parent bird now passes down genes x 2. Even the gay uncle bird indirectly will pass down his genes x1.
See the survival advantage?

Are you volunteering to pay for the special education and all the medical bills of children born of incest??

How’s this any different than women having children late and increase the risk of her baby getting down syndrome? How’s this any different than this. How’s this any different than this. How’s this any different than people eating themselves to obesity and having a lot of medical bills. How’s this any different than people with AIDS/HIV having kids. There’s a high chance they’ll pass it on to their kids as well. I’m sure people who have AIDS/HIV also have a lot of medical bills too. How’s this any different than people who are doing a lot of sun tanning? Their likelihood of having Skin cancer increases which will also increase their medical bills too. I can go on, but you get the point. I’m paying for all of that now, so, sure, I’ll pay for this too.May 11, 2012 at 11:32 PM #743653jstoesz
ParticipantThe real question is, why should the government recognize marriage at all? All these tax savings make no sense to me.

What tax savings are you referring to? AFAIK, there’s a marriage tax penalty, but I never heard of a tax saving. info on Marriage Penalty. You can also go here and try 2 scenarios, 1 is 2 single people making $100k each and then do another one where a married couple make $200k combine. Then tell me which couple pay more?May 12, 2012 at 10:07 AM #743668scaredyclassic
ParticipantYes a penalty. I tried to talk my wife into a divorce for tax purposes only about 15 years ago. She said it was worth a couple of grand a yr to be married to me. Frustrating. Why can’t a woman be more like a man?
