Listen, if there were no big tankers on the road, it would be safe. I don’t know what the fixation is w/big vehicles. In Europe, this is a non-issue. They all drive small cars and it’s safe b/c if you remove the factor of big SUVs, everyone is on the same playing field.
I’m sorry. I think it is a huge waste of gasoline consumption and something I just don’t comprehend. But if you enjoy driving it and get some kind of pleasure out of it, then fine. Just don’t say it’s safety. If people were all driving smaller vehicles as in Europe, it would be equally as safe.

Not exactly. Read the other part of about mini cars crashing into stationary objects. Smaller car => less energy absorption.
Of course, the real solution is really
1) Make it more difficult for people to get licenses (stricter driving tests)2) Reduce highway/freeway speed down to ridiculously low speeds
3) Ban cell phone use in cars
4) Bring back prohibition.

I agree that we should all be driving smaller more fuel efficient vehicles. And I would if EVERYONE else did. Its all about safety. I would never put my children in a focus, yaris, or those other smaller cars. If we got hit by a yukon xl they would be demolished. Yes, the odds of getting in a car accident is small but its the same logic as why my 6 year old is still in a harness carseat…SAFETY!
I think that it is going to be very hard to rid ourselves of the tankers. Most of my friends have the same way of thinking as I. We will be driving our cars until we feel it is safe to have our children in smaller ones. As far as wasteful gas consumption, the last time I checked minivans didn’t have the greatest mpg.
