Americans are getting too f**king fat to ski. Fat pigs have bad knees. End of story.
Very true.
All Americans can do these days is weight lift. They lift one heavy bar bell and think they are badass strong.
I have a chubby buddy to whom I’m close enough that I can honestly say the obvious truth. The guy can’t do anything that requires finesse. One time, a long time ago, he was talking shit so we went skiing. His uncoordinated fat ass rolled down the hill like a boulder.
Lots of people talk about the glory days of high school and college. Now they have hard times bending down to pick up coins they drop on the ground.
Bad health is more often than not self-induced. That’s much worse than financial irresponsibility or losing a house to foreclosure.

I do agree that those Californians who ski do so better than the avg NYer or NJian.
July 3, 2012 at 9:53 PM #747197sdrealtorParticipantJust let me know when your arrogant NY mentality is ready for a 10 mile run up and down some hills in SD. I got ya. And I know who I’m talkin to. I spent 30 yrs listening to you. Your all so full of……
July 3, 2012 at 10:24 PM #747201spdrunParticipantHow about the Goat Trail down to Blacks Beach, and back? 😀 I’ll hit you up when I’m out in CA in August.

July 4, 2012 at 12:28 PM #747222barnaby33ParticipantExcept for the cost, yes it would.

Dude… Snowboarding imho is a lot tougher than skiing. I tried it a few times…Couldn’t tell if /i was goofy foot or not… didn’t make a hell of a difference.
I haven’t gone skiing in awhile. Still using my old rossig that are non-parabolic…
but… i’m all preped. Got the truck. got the trailer hitch. got the all season tires… now just need…. snow….

Same with cars I think, need a speed thrill, just play a racing video game.
Very few teens and twenty something’s out on the slopes compared to my generation anyway.
Actually some of the guys that played the racing video games actually “graduated” to real racing…Check out nissan’s racing program.

There’s been studies that actually some of these games develop such good hand eye coordination…. I believe a lot of the commando style games are such, and there’s been studies that some of the gamers reflexes are much more adept if placed behind a real trigger….
July 4, 2012 at 1:21 PM #747227briansd1GuestSnowboarding is easier than skiing. People generally can’t keep their legs together which is required in skiing. All my friends who fail at skiing fall back to snowboarding.
With snowboarding you can fall on your ass, but that’s really bad when skiing.
Skiing is all about finesse and managing gravity. It’s actually effortless because, thanks to gravity, you don’t really need to strain to, for example, pedal like in cycling.
sdprun makes a good point that snowboarders, age for age, are chubbier than skiers. You have to enjoy people watching to notice because snowboarders are a younger group, perhaps because kids these days are fatter than they used to be decades ago.
July 4, 2012 at 4:12 PM #747236sdrealtorParticipantI wouldn’t say snowboarding was easier just different. I gave up skiing because my knees and ankles had a tough time with it by the time I hit my mid 20’s. Thats where most skiing injuries occur. Snowboarding spares the lower extremities at the expense of arms, shoulders, headand neck.
