Here is what I would say to President Bush if I were Nancy Pelosi:
Mr President, you have 199 Republican members of Congress. Your Administration wants this bill. In the spirit of bi-partisan support, we, Democrats, are willing to join you in doing what is best for the country.
However, the Republican leadership needs to bring Republican legislators fully on board this program. We will provide the marginal votes to pass your bill.
You have our commitment of support. We need your commitment for at least 180 votes on the Republican side.

If Democrats were smart, they would let the Republican take ownership of this bill. And pay the political price in November.
Homeowner who are making their mortgage payments on time should be outraged by this bill. Others have gambled, cashed out, are are now long gone. And now, hard-working, play-by-the rules Americans have to bail-out Wall Street?
The bailout simply doesn’t make sense to the average American.

95 Dems voted against it and they caused the problem by ignoring the GSE’s.
I guess taking campaign money from the GSE’s, not to mention Dodds and Jesus Obama’s special low interest mortgages were more important to them then solving problems.
However, at this point I just as soon not have a bill and let it all come down.

Tell the 40% democrat who voted against it that they don’t have the courage. I applauded all the rep who actually voted NO. They all have great courage to stand up and say no.
Are you serious asianautica?
Who asked for the bill? Paulson and Bush. Let them come up with the votes.

September 29, 2008 at 7:08 PM #277824patientlywaitingParticipantjficquette, what do the GSEs have to do with this bailout here? You’re conflating issues here.
The GSEs have already been nationalized! Remember?
This bailout is to buy the bad paper owned by private banks, not the GSEs.
