Marion, before I continue, I want to clear. I like you as a poster here and I find your postings eccentric yet amusing. If you’re referring to people on this board, I don’t think that these “white bitches” (as you say) on this board resent you because you’re black. If people do resent you, it’s because they resent you for your posts.
FLU, I like you as well. π
I didn’t make myself clear. I wasn’t referring to anyone on this board, but rather the women that work in the schools where I did my psychology fieldwork/internship. It goes without saying that these women are ignorant in their resentment. It’s not my fault for whatever reason they are where they are in life. I’m not the only one that experiences this of course, but it gets kind of old and in this day and age it shouldn’t be happening. That said, it will continue to happen, this kind of thing will never go away completely. People are people and the ignorant and bigoted will remain along with the intelligent and good.
When I have experienced this behavior and “looks” my inclination is to go over to their desks and say, “Bitch, get a life!” However, it would neither be appropriate nor professional for me to lower myself to their level. I have standards to uphold by the credentialing body that has authorized me to practice in this state, so it goes without saying I can’t say whatever I think. More’s the pity! Ha! π
We have to teach as well as be an example to these type of individuals and combat their ignorance in that fashion.

July 11, 2008 at 2:37 PM #237670AnonymousGuest
Marion,
I am guessing it is not your race they resent, it is you are better looking than they are. A lot of women are bitchy that way.
Aecetia, that too. lol. :)I have to admit, along with my resentment, I do get a perverted enjoyment out of watching them “hate”. I’m being honest, that’s just a part of my personality.
Thanks for your support.
P.S. I also felt resentment directed at me because I had a degree and most of the women I worked with did not. That’s what I get for going into a blue collar occupation, but the pay was worth most of the BS I had to endure.
I can understand why you would be resented as well. You are smart and articulate.

You know, this may sound like a rant, but I’m kind of sensitive to this at present. FLU, being a minority yourself, you should know that racism does exist in the workplace. I am not convinced that Rev. Jackson does all he does without concern for the black community just to exploit the situation for his own purposes/gain.While doing my psychology internship, I got frequent resentful looks from the white trash high-school educated, and soccer moms. It was if they wanted to say, “What is SHE doing in that position??” I’m not stupid, I know resentful, hateful looks when I see them.
One of you want to explain that?
Marion,
Take a look at the response I posted earlier. I think we were posting at the same time π In short, I don’t deny there is some sort of indirect racism. But you really can’t expect legislation/legal/etc to address the issue born out by an ugly few.
You can’t brand white people all racist, because of what a few people you *think* are racist, and impose policy to try to equalize a situation in which the rest of “white” people who had nothing to do with your initial situation to begin with. That would be no different that trying to put every muslim person in guantanamo just because we suspect a few are terrorists, or imprisoning all japanese because or a few a feared to be traitors (oops, I guess we screwed that one up too). See my point?
I don’t have an answer for you to solve injustice that may/may not happens. Life isn’t fair. Not everyone is born the same, in the same class, with the same opportunity. And as a minority in some profession, in some cases, it may take more effort and excellance to get the credability you need. And my approach is, and has been all this time, if I don’t feel like I’m be recognized for what I can do, than (1) I’m not really as good as (2) the firm doesn’t value what I do or doesn’t really need me for what I can do (3) I have an asshole management team that takes me for granted.
Then I go find another environment where my contributions are valued and I can make a difference. My situation is probably different than yours because I work in the private sector and have the luxury to move around somewhat (well, at least until this recession hits). And frankly, despite the mental letdown of feeling unwanted, I probably can survive without working for a few years, which is the real reason why I want to work. And also, anyone can probably tell you, at any point in your career, there were ups and downs. There are plenty of times you have to work doing sh!t with no respect, for an idiot, and play the game so to speak, depending the situation. For instance, in the tech industry in SD, right now is the time when need to shut up and just do your job. Just make sure you the shit you do is temporary so you can get back on track.
Also, from my perspective, statistically, I know at lot more “white” people that would help me out if i needed help than I know “white” people who are racists.

I think you answered your own question when you said “soccer mom XXX trash”
What can you do? Let’s put this in perspective. If these people really are the “low class” people you say they are, do you even want to associate with them? If not, why both waste your time even trying to educate them? Clearly, they aren’t the ones hiring you. More importantly, you can’t change people who are a certain way, and as long as it doesn’t directly impact you, why bother?
I can say this, one doesn’t earn respect through shoving P.C.ness down people’s throat. If at all, you just create any new or additional bigotry.
I’m already predicting some of the posters who are non-minority are going to stop posting on this sensitive topic, because of the general nature of this topic is a sensitive topic to non-minorities. They often have to tiptoe around this, because even though they never hand any intention offending, more or less one way or the other, somehow sometimes it always gets perceived as such. It’s really a shame, because I really prefer people to come as they are.
