Having lived and worked in NYC I can wholeheartedly agree there is absolutely no comparison. It is rather silly even to bring that up as a comparison. However, all of San Diego is not souless and impersonal. Sure places like Carmel Valley are, which is why I dont like it there in spite of the fabulous location. However, the beach communities like Del Mar, Solana Beach and paticularly Encinitas (Cardiff, Olde Encinitas and Leucadia) are very soulful places.

August 8, 2007 at 10:48 AM #71816GoUSCParticipantAwful lot of SD bashing going on. I feel like I have to defend my town! I have lived in the soulful places with tons of culture. From my perspective it gets tiring, and stressful, and unenjoyable. Sure New York is a great town but I could never deal with the crowded spaces, dense population etc. Sure Paris is great but I could never deal with…well…Parisians. San Diego has it’s place. It’s a laid back, easygoing, place that is not as crowded and not as stressful.
And I think a lot of people who move here agree with it. They talk about the lack of culture, museums, etc. but it’s still so hard for them to move away.

I have been to NYC only for a short time. Can some one please explain what is its attraction (to live, not visit). People with right skill can probably make a lot of money. Besides that?
San Diego’s Balboa park area is not too bad to spend free time. There is quite a bit of theatre, music and other cultural stuff going on. TJ is so nearby. LA isn’t too far. What is to complain?

I have lived in many places and San Diego has nice mellow feel to it that is missing in NYC and LA. Jobs pay low here and real estate is high. Thats the major down points. But.. I feel it will change.
