which is weird because LA-SAN is probably the most ridership they can have but they are not even planning to build it π ! Just shows how screwed up things are!
Building from LA to SF is relatively easy. The stretch from SF to San Jose will reuse existing tracks, the stretch from San Jose to San Fernando Valley is unpopulated. They only have to worry about 15 or 20 miles from Newhall Pass to the Union Station.
On the other hand, building from LA to SAN through 100 miles of dense residential neighborhoods will be a NIMBY nightmare.
Their official projections are that the LA-SF stretch will have double the ridership (in passenger miles) of the LA-SAN stretch.

January 17, 2011 at 7:19 PM #655011lindismithParticipantI rode high speed trains in Japan recently, and they are very quiet. I will try to post a video so you can see/hear.
Any public transport that helps San Diegans is good IMO. And, conversely, anything that helps tourists get here in an economical way, and alleviates freeway traffic and air pollution is good.
Can you imagine living here, and working in the LA market? Finally, there would be access to high paying jobs for us!
(Hello Piggs! Long time, no write, but biz is good, and I’m doing great. Just now getting back into housing market research.)

When the state has a balanced budget?
…In other words, never :)
seriously, don’t hold your breath, I really doubt I’ll see it in my lifetime and I’m probably on the younger side on this board.
