You got the wrong guy. I’m not trying to drum up business on this board in fact I have repeatedly stayed away from doing so. I have family in Oahu that has been there about 15 years and raised kids there. Its a great place to visit and he has an awesome career there (surgeon) but it has been an awful place to raise kids. None of them came out well educated or ambitious. I view RE primarily as a place to live and raise one’s family. Sure investment opportunites arise adn I’ve taken advantage of a few but thats not the way I look at it.Best of luck and I hope you have better luck than him.

sdrealtor has never given out any information as to his business dealings, you can’t even figure out how to contact the guy.

June 7, 2007 at 2:15 PM #57618hawkParticipantI am 27 and my husband and I make about 130k per year. My single girlfriends make on average about 65-70k, one that is a teacher less but a few more make over 100k. They have all been saving as well since they got their jobs. Maybe it is since we went to UCSD we skewed it upwards, but most of my friends live realtiverly frugally and still are able to save to buy a place when the market is right for them.
After paying off our car loan in a few months we will be saving 2500 per month.
I also know people who I work with that do not save very much at all.
With help from in-laws we should be able to put down 20% on a place.
I am an attorney and husband is a teacher fyi (not engineers)

With that kind of income and a few years to make a little more you should be able to comfortably afford 450k to 500k with 20% down if you choose to. That is about where my wife and I started out in our current home several years ago and it has never been much of a stretch. Hopefully, there will be a day soon that it gets you something very nice.June 7, 2007 at 2:25 PM #57649sdrealtorParticipantHawk
