I know a few that are floundering and one that is on the right track with the next big thing…
actually there are two things I see becoming really big within a couple of years.

February 22, 2008 at 11:14 AM #157664NavydocParticipantRaybyrnes and FLU, I completely agree with you guys about transferrable sales skills, but I think the problem is a large proportion of those ex-mortgage brokers don’t really have them.
I used to make a pretty good living in commision retail sales, and I can tell you, to make a living at it you have to work your ass off. In addition, to be REALLY successful in the $100k plus range in a lot of cases you almost have to be a sociopath who really doesn’t care about people. I wonder how many of those former mortgage brokers are willing to work that hard. If you’re not really cut out for it you invariably burn out after a few years.
It’s amazing how much less work I find being a physician compared to being a salesperson, but I spend a WHOLE LOT more time doing it.

I tend to agree with the fact that to make 100K plus in sales you ahve to work hard. But I tend to disagree with the statement that you have to be a sociopath.
My experience is that my paycheck went up exponentially when I stopped caring about my own paycheck. I worked with custoemrs who wanted to learn something and maintained a pipeline over the years. For those people who wanted QUOTES or thought I was some lacky I got rid of them fast and let them figure things out on their own.
I know what my time is worth and it is not to do people leg work for them. That is what the internet is for.
