Participant

Looks like Mot Mobility/Goog today.
My group was hit – but I survived. (So far.)Mobile devices group here in San Diego was decimated if rumors are to be believed. (I work for the cable side.)
My Schwab financial adviser called me to make sure I was ok – she’d been getting calls from clients who work here and want to know about rolling their 401ks.
The press (various articles) says 4000 jobs worldwide from Mot mobility. 1300 or so from the US. 700 from Illinois according to the Chicago Tribune. If rumors are to be believed it’s about 200 from San Diego.
Wife reports the same about Mobility. Almost entire group layed off.
So many people got fired she is wondering where she is working next as she can’t imagine that they will be keeping the buildings.

Still several hundred Home employees. I don’t think people realize this campus was majority Home employees. I suspect they’ll consolodate us into building 2 and lease out or sell building 1. It’s owned free and clear and on separate lots. Prop tax records show it’s owned under the old General Instrument name.UCGal
Participant
UCGal,

Participant
Somebody said that Qualcomm has about 1000 job opennings. Is this true? That would be very bullish for the housing market.
Most of the people in my group got emails from a Qualcomm recruiter based on our linked in profiles so the Q is being pretty aggressive about recruiting.UCGal

ParticipantI went over a couple high bridges last summer in Sicily. Specifically these two:
http://highestbridges.com/wiki/index.php?title=Irminio_Bridge
http://highestbridges.com/wiki/index.php?title=Modica_ViaductWe spent a week in Modica – which is a very verticle city since it’s basically in a deep deep gorge. (Over 1000 steps from the main drag at the bottom to our apartment 2/3’s of the way up.)
My husband was in awe of the bridge every time we went over it – which was daily.

ParticipantNot sure if they’re any good anymore… but years ago Terry’s Autobody in Oceanside was good. They were known for doing great painting.

Participant
2 baby mamas?
Actually his current/new place might work with 2 baby mamas…. It’s a 2 unit place.
Install one in the front, one in the back…Problem solved.

ParticipantInteresting. That’s good to hear.
I would still be cautious about returns to Amazon… Several years ago, when Kindle’s first came out – they cancelled a customer’s account because of what they deemed excessive returns. Ok – that makes sense from the non-digital point of view… but it impacted his kindle books, too. He lost access to books he’d paid for. After some finagling, he got his kindle access back. But it created quite a bru-ha-ha at the time.
It made me more than a little nervous about returns to Amazon.

ParticipantI’m all for another option to Time Warner or ATT-Uverse for tv.
The Kansas City trial is making the big cable/telco MSOs nervous. That’s not a bad thing.

ParticipantIt always depends on the car, whether you are buying private party or from a dealer, etc.
Some cars hold their value very well. Prius is one of them.
But a friend’s son had to sell his 2 year old prius – and took a big loss… so deals occasionally happen.
I’ve also found that dealers ask well over KBB for used cars, and offer well below KBB on trade ins. So dealing with a used car (either end) with a dealer is a bad proposition.
I’ve bought and sold cars privately – in general I’ve gotten (and sold) for below KBB because that’s the market price.
So if you want a deal on a used car – start scouring craigslist and the reader.

I do like that. Sweet. I sometimes have to work hard to get that from diego.
A friend started dating a guy who seemed too good to be true. I offered to dig on him. 3 years in – he turned out to be as good as advertised… so that was a happy ending.
I’m a big fan of our love.
Some words and letters were left out to make the story more interesting……….
Participant
My decision would be simple repeal the 10% penalty for 401K withdrawals. What is your QE3 idea?
Well – since pensions have gone the way of the dodo bird, and SS is on shaky ground… who’s going to pay for your retirement? The money you’re “paying yourself back” with is money you’re *not* saving/investing/growing… it’s filling a hole you created in your retirement nest egg. In other words – you’d probably be putting less new contributions in, or saving less in taxable accounts, or investment accounts. Unless your salary magically went up by the payment amount.
I’m not so keen on letting people have unfettered access to their retirement funds early. I know too many people who would fritter it away on stupid stuff. Not enough people save properly for retirement in the first place.

ParticipantI do like that.
I really like the title history part. Sweet. I sometimes have to work hard to get that from the http://arcc.co.san-diego.ca.us/services/grantorgrantee/search.aspxBut San Diego is better than some other municipalities. A friend started dating a guy who seemed too good to be true. I offered to dig around on him. I found out that LA counties databases are not as nice as San Diego’s. I think I had trouble finding court cases, etc. (3 years in – he turned out to be as good as advertised… so that was a happy ending.)
I’m a big fan of transparency with our government. I love the online public records.
