ParticipantI would expect there will NOT be an elimination of the pension obligation – just a readjustment of it.
I expect the BK court to use the PBGC as a guideline – and cap the biggest pensions at a much lower level… but the folks who didn’t have fat pensions will see a much smaller reduction. (Similar to what happened to the airline employees.)
What bugs me the most about this is the fact that the politicians who decided not to fund the pension are feeling little to no pain for their decisions.

PS – why did they sell in CV instead of renting out their place and using it to pay expenses in the Bay Area?
They already had a rental house in San Diego (the one they owned before they moved to CV) that has long term leasors. They wanted to pull the equity out of the CV house… too much of their networth was in real estate and they wanted to diversify.

ParticipantFriends just moved from CV to Palo Alto. Price per SF up is close to $1000/sf. They are totally in sticker shock… they knew it would be expensive… but to get a fixer sub 2000sf for over $2M hurts. They’re renting a small house in the meantime… and the rent is way more than a mortgage on a CV McMansion.

ParticipantI’m with Rustico on this one.
A story of adoption is the exact opposite of sexual – no mention of how babies are made.
Are you offended because, in the story, a same sex couple is adopting and they’re not being run out of town as sinners or heathens? Would you approve of the story if the story then showed them being humiliated and harassed for adopting a child when they were a same sex couple?
Hiding your head in the sand and pretending gay people aren’t part of our world doesn’t make them *poof* disappear. The bible preaches love, tolerance, and turning the other cheek. It teaches that it’s not for man to judge, but that judgement is God’s job. (I’m not particularly religious – but have done a bit of bible study.) Are you saying you’re in the position to judge other people’s sins?

ParticipantRelated to the original topic…
why do we tell our kids “don’t take candy from strangers” and “don’t talk to strangers”… but on Halloween we send them out SPECIFICALLY to talk to strangers and beg for candy for strangers.
As far as tax on the candy – my husband imposes the parent tax – he cherry picks his favorites out of the kids’ haul.
My favorite treat they got – one house offered kids a choice of a BOOK or candy. If they took the book, they gave them the candy too. Both boys got awesome Calvin and Hobbes books.

Participantcoming late to this thread.
Our actual costs for our granny flat were much higher than they should have been (contractor issues). We explained that to the assessors office and they looked over the original contract.
Additionally, they reduced some of the cost for things that were ADA compliant. (We were building a handicap accessible granny flat for my wheelchair bound father in law.) There’s a law that says they can’t increase your assessment if your addition or improvement is to make the property accessible. So we got a reduction to account for the extra grading for the ramps, and for extra costs to make the bathroom fully accessible.
I would NOT lie or make up a number on the form – but I would work with the assessors office to make sure it’s accounted for properly.

Participant
One of my female friend was complaining to me that her husband looks like a slob all the time. She’s embarrassed to be seen with him. The guy is a good husband and earns a good living.
You can wear cheap h&m clothes and still look good. Just look neat and tidy.
Everyone wants curb appeal and pride of ownership.
See – if she’d been a cougar and married a hot young (well dressed) stud – she’d have no complaints. Now apply it to you comment below…

What’s wrong with being a “cougar?” (Woman who dates younger men.) As a early-30s guy, I actually prefer the company of women in their late 30s to mid 40s to my age or younger. Generally smarter, more together, and less goddamned boring than little ditzes in their 20s.
The more cougars, the better in my book.
That means when you are 50, your wife will be 60+
If some attractive older gal hooks up with spdrun, and they stick together… she’d probably not be complaining that he’s a slob later in life.
(Actually – since I don’t know spdrun – she might be… maybe he is a slob. LOL.)

My hood – UC as an example. South UC (south of Rose Canyon, north of 52, between 5 and 805) is mostly older (1960’s) single family homes. North UC, aka UTC, is mostly condo’s, business, and shopping. Demographically – they’re not the same. But we share a fire station, high school and middle school, community planning group, etc.
I could argue that UTC is not part of UC… but what’s the point? From a technical point of view – we share services and schools, so we’re all one big happy University City.
I would suggest a Border Check point at train tracks in the valley between UTC and UC to keep those undesirable, mall shoppers, UCSD students, and Clairemont commuters from passing through your beloved UC! 😛

LOL. Not a bad idea. 🙂UCGal
ParticipantI know turbo tax handles this stuff. I would do a “what if” tax return as if you were starting to take withdrawals.

This is what I was thinking of. Laundry water is a good source for grey water. It’s in our long term plans.
That and xeroscaping with less thirst plants.

Participant
When you’re talking about what’s likely a tiny number, 350% is probably still not much.
This was my thought. Homes above $1M are less common that homes less than $1M. Especially on a national scale. So the data set is smaller.Even in pricey San Diego county – homes above $1M are still a small subset of the housing market, even if they’re common in carmel valley, del mar la jolla, RSF, etc. They are less common in mira mesa, clairemont, linda vista, north park, etc.

ParticipantFrom the link above we have a Mira Mesa home – complete with NO WALLS.
