What do you think about the college bubble? What do you think it is going to happen, and when?
I think the bubble is already here. Tuitions and fees are high, and with budget cuts, it’s hard for students at public schools to get classes.I’ve been socking money into the 529’s for the boys. I’m hoping they’ll be able to go to a UC or CS school.
I think WW has a point – college education doesn’t mean a job anymore… So as the kids get closer, perhaps we’ll encourage them to go to a vo-tech school… plumbers and mechanics make decent $$.
I do look at college (or vo-tech) as being for job preparation – if I’m paying for it. I’ll have the same strings attached that my parents did: career oriented major, decent grades or you’re cut off etc. (I wanted to be a poli-sci major and was told “good luck paying for that – we won’t”.)
As far as when the bubble will burst… It’s reaching the unsustainable point. In theory, it has to burst at some point. In the meantime I keep putting $ in the 529’s.

Perhaps CA prisons are different. But what you describe is NOT what happens in the prison my family member worked in.And he quit 2 years from his pension because of the stress… and basically had a nervous breakdown. He’s working at a private prison now… but it’s not the cushy job you describe. At least not in AZ where he works.
I’ve had long talks with him when he was working with the state, when he was trying to figure out his next step (mid breakdown) and saw him recently.
As mentioned – the turnover is high. And part of the reason for that is that dealing with inmates on a day in day out basis is stressful. You can describe it as sitting behind a computer all day – but that’s not the description I got from my family member.

per the UT, we are looking at “land between the two freeways (I-5 and I-15), north of the San Dieguito River, south of Lake Hodges” http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20040912/news_m1h12smo-jmp.html%5B/quote%5DNow I’m even more confused! The 56 corridor doesn’t include Carmel Valley? Now that just seems silly.
of course it does, between the I-5 and I-15.
I think the confusion is the N/S boundaries. San Dieguito river is north of Del Mar Heights… So that’s well north of the 56 corridor.Heck – UC is between the 5 and 15… as is North park.

ParticipantOne of the things that’s good about this site – there’s diversity of neighborhoods.
We’ve got some downtown folks. A few east county folks. BG brings the south county and Chula Vista perspective. Some very active north county coastal types, some 15 corridor types, some Temecula/murrietta types… Clairemont is well represented, as is my hood – UC (at least two other regular posters live in my hood.)
There are pros and cons to every neighborhood.
Rather than getting into a pissing match over which is the BESTEST EVAH!!! Why not have rational discussions about the pros and cons of the areas that each of us has familiarity with… when it’s appropriate.
The OP specifically asked about certain communities in the NCC and 56 corridor. It’s appropriate to give him/her info to address his/her questions.
We’ve heard the arguments ad naseum from several parties:
* chula vista has big lots and fewer mello roos.
* North county coastal is exceptional and all the buyers can pay cash for their properties – at least sdr’s clients can.
* 4S is where premier folks move.
* UC is Lake Wobegon- all the kids are above average. (Sorry – had to joke about my hood, too.)
* and of course Santee is only 10 minutes from the beach. LOL.Rather than fighting with each other… how about we answer the questions originally asked. It seems like a few folks did, then it got hijacked into a giant childish fight.
C’mon folks. My 8 year old and 10 year old (sometimes) show more ability to just walk away rather than squabble. (Ok – not really – but this thread reminds me of their bickering.)
