To a large degree it has been on the coast with prop 13 for a long time
About 30 years ago an older friend told me after buying my first house, “never sell”.
I wish I still owned that first house.
December 24, 2022 at 12:33 PM in reply to: Money markets at Schwab now above 4%, tax-free muni now above 3% #827209The-ShovelerParticipantWe are almost 100% short duration treasuries paying over 4% (some as high as 4.8%) in our IRA’s.
Almost no stocks in any account.
At some point will look to move to long term treasuries.
Sleep much better.
The-ShovelerParticipantAnother data point,
We just hired into our group a fully remote worker moving down to SD from San Jose.
(our company is L.A. based)
The-ShovelerParticipantI like the Prius, but I wish it had more room in the trunk like some Prius-V’s.
I like the Idea of not having to keep searching for a charging station or trying to schedule enough time to make sure I can get to my destinations.
If I had an EV I think I would want to have a second car hybrid probably just in case.
The-ShovelerParticipantIMO Dentistry is not a scam, but some dentists are scammers.
Some Doctors are too.
Anyway just my opinion
The-ShovelerParticipantAgree with Coronita,
Buying a dream car is probably the best way to get over a mid life crisis.
But maybe something a little cheaper.
Me I want a new Tacoma (easy to please plus I don’t drive as much these days LOL).
The-ShovelerParticipant
I was hoping we’d get back to point where we have a “back to basics” cult where you just have much simplier cars for basic transportation and not continueously trying to turn cars in to computers.
+1
I think people want this but car manufactures don’t see it as profitable as selling rolling luxury boxes.The-ShovelerParticipantI went out with no real plans to buy anything other than maybe beer (can usually find a good deal on beer on BF).
People still seem to have a lot of cash floating around, most everyplace I went was full of people spending like drunken sailors.Seems like every year there are fewer and fewer BF deals.
Only things I bought were a new iPhone and beer.

Funny you should mention that. I’ve been laddering CDs. Though money markets these days are looking good too.
Moved some into short duration treasuries, I think fed will take it to 7% potentially (unless the whole shebang blows). Time will tell.
The-ShovelerParticipantThis is actually starting to make me a little nervous.
NATO could invoke Article 4 after Russian missiles struck Poland
Top U.S. lawmaker warned on Tuesday of significant consequences for Russia — including a Western military response — if it’s determined that Moscow was at fault for a deadly airstrike in Poland.Russia claims it was a false flag.
Update:
Looks like it was Ukrainian air defense missile, so we can relax a little, but I think it shows how fast things can go in a wrong (really bad) direction.The-ShovelerParticipantFair point sdr but my point was you get all that + exterior maintenance.
So far we have never had a special assessment (knock on wood) and our HOA is run by retirees so it is very very conservative with regards to expenses.
Everything is well maintained, we just had new roofs and new dual pane windows installed (again no special assessment).The-ShovelerParticipantMy Mothers Condo is a little under 4K a year HOA,
But includes water, insurance (including earthquake and flood), nice Gym, nice golf course, pool, jacuzzi etc…
Never used any of them (except water obviously) LOL
The-ShovelerParticipantdup
The-ShovelerParticipantI passed through Vancouver maybe 5-6 years ago on a drive vacation though the Canadian Rockies.
Did not spend much time in Vancouver but the drive through the Canadian Rockies I would highly recommend.
Spent about a week (if I remember) but wish we could have taken longer.
Also buying stuff in costco even then was like 20% cheaper in Canada.
Lot a fun but sorry no plans to move to Canada just yet.
Maybe AN said it, St-George – nice place to visit.
