Participant23109, Mea Culpa, it was I who mentioned you. Six months ago I debated with you and tried to talk you out of it because you mentioned numerous times you wanted a slightly larger place and I felt you were talking yourself into something you knew was wrong. There is a very good book called Leadership and Self Deception.
I happen to read it at the time were having those debates and I was struggling with the same situation you were at the time, I still struggle today. I wasn’t attempting to gloat, just re-affirming my own gamble that I could have easlily lost if my guess was wrong. You should still read the book, it may open your eyes to some things you are partially still doing. I wished you had listened but I understand why you rationalized your decision and you are right, it is not the end of the world, it’s just money. Look at the bright side, you’ve helped others so you have good karma going for you. I sat at the abyss and got within inches of submitting an offer just a month or two back and thought to myself that I would be a complete hypocrit if I do exactly what I told 23109 to not do, buy a house that I mostly like for a price i mostly liked when a little more time will get me exactly what I want for what I want all the while ignoring all of the advice that I solicited. I floated the specifics and a few folks here planted enough doubt in me that I backed out and I am forever greatful.
This will not be the last decision you will make during your time on this planet, learn from it and consider it just tuition in an ongoing education.

ParticipantRich, thanks for chiming in. I will refrain from any spoilers, but do hurry up and get to season 4, hands down the best. Allan and Marion, I didn’t mean to be the hall monitor but someone had to do it my apologies if it seemed harsh and I was a little defensive of the attacks on one of my favorite media people. A man’s got to have a code (see, clever non spoiling wire reference).

ParticipantNot all housing bears wish for stock market crashes, most of us reverse flippers moved R/E holdings into stocks or savings instruments. If inflation kills savings and rates go to nothing while stocks tank, we aren’t in that much better of a position (but still a little better). I know I am not rooting for a complete econimic meltdown or even a recession. I don’t think that just because one feels a certain asset class is overvalued that they think all classes are overvalued. I don’t believe that we need high unemployment, a stock market crash or any other calamity to get a housing correction. The housing bubble is partly to blame for the current conditions, more evidence of why our leaders should have attempted to avoid the bubble in the first place, rather than try and minimize the damage afterwards.
