ParticipantNostra, according to TemekuT who lives nearby, before my place was vacated there was a weekly garage sale. More than likely they bought it, perhaps they had aspirations of building their own bbq island before they got behind in their payments. It’s all good, I bought it knowing what was missing, the panel door and sink were still there and are made by firemagic, I priced a grill from them that fit’s the hole and it’s 2-3k, so a few hundred would be fantastic. I introduced myself yesterday, I’ll drop off some wine in a few days as a Christams gift and then casually ask if they wan’t to sell the BBQ a day or two later. They seemed nice but they won’t be there too long, their short sale will either go through or they will get foreclosed on. Maybe I’ll pull a similar stunt, I’ll buy everything from that house at a garage sale just before it closes and sell it to the next owner. Maybe I’ll leave a ransom note that reads “I have your doorknobs and plantation shutters, meet me in the park at 8 sharp, come alone”

ParticipantAllan, sd, cardiff, me, we just need SD to chime in and we have completed the piggington football crew.
sdrealtor, I agree that it doesn’t feel right as a fan to see HS football in that venue but the players love it and it’s the only way to eliminate home field advantage.
Allan, despite the 26 million teenagers, they lost to Corona. That actually isn’t my kid’s school, I’ve lamented before that his school has the highest GPA of any football team in the county and almost no apartments in it’s boundaries, two ingredients for mediocre football. I could care less, he wakes up at 5 am every day to work out, maintains a 4.0, practices every day during the summer and it keeps him out of trouble, there are plenty of lessons to be learned in losing football games. student athletics aren’t about titles, most student athletes never win a title, but thy all benefit from the exprience. I lost plenty of games as a lad, wouldn’t change it for anything.
Carmel Valley (which has both LCC and Cathedral) is one of those rare exceptions, so much so that it pulled the ESPN national story coverage that promted me to start the thread. The theme of the article was how silver spoon kids from one of the nicest communities in the world still come up with fantastic football teams. It defies logic and is a testament to why half these boards are devoted to such a limited geograpical area, and why the r/e values there will never plummet, supply and demand will always be out of whack there even where the is little demand. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, if you make less than 100 or 150k and are waiting for cv to to fall within your grasp, break out a map book and find another town cause it “aint hapenin.”
Funny how the football field is just a microcosm of the rest of the world.

ParticipantIn any year, most governments lose about 5% of their staff through retirement, injury, fired or they just quit. If every employee worked 33 years, none were ever hurt, quit or got fired, the yearly loss would be 3% on average. Another issue is most governmental employers have 3-5% of their positions vacant. What typically happens is that they just stop hiring and eliminate or freeze vacant positions. That gets them between a 6% and 10% reduction without handing out a single pink slip. Some of the local governments have seen this coming and have had hiring freezes in effect for months. There might be a few pink slips given out here and there, the unions and media will make a big fuss but it will look worse on paper than it really is, I don’t think the local economy will feel the impact too much.
