I agree about HS fields but most of the fields I’ve seen do not have a proper two-sided monster stands like we had in Ohio and Texas… I used to really like HS football but with my kids, I just don’t have time to go though they are close (if they choose to play)
Ohio plays the state games at Paul Brown Stadium in Massillon. They used to play in the Horseshoe but but stopped for lack of atmosphere. Actually in Texas they use the big stadiums too. I went to the state title game in texas to watch Abilene Cooper in the finals at Texas Stadium and it was at least half empty. The opposing QB that day was from Austin Westlake (Drew Brees) and they pounded Cooper.

sdrealtor, I agree that it doesn’t feel right as a fan to see HS football in that venue but the players love it and it’s the only way to eliminate home field advantage.
Allan, despite the 26 million teenagers, they lost to Corona. That actually isn’t my kid’s school, I’ve lamented before that his school has the highest GPA of any football team in the county and almost no apartments in it’s boundaries, two ingredients for mediocre football. I could care less, he wakes up at 5 am every day to work out, maintains a 4.0, practices every day during the summer and it keeps him out of trouble, there are plenty of lessons to be learned in losing football games. student athletics aren’t about titles, most student athletes never win a title, but thy all benefit from the exprience. I lost plenty of games as a lad, wouldn’t change it for anything.
Carmel Valley (which has both LCC and Cathedral) is one of those rare exceptions, so much so that it pulled the ESPN national story coverage that promted me to start the thread. The theme of the article was how silver spoon kids from one of the nicest communities in the world still come up with fantastic football teams. It defies logic and is a testament to why half these boards are devoted to such a limited geograpical area, and why the r/e values there will never plummet, supply and demand will always be out of whack there even where the is little demand. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, if you make less than 100 or 150k and are waiting for cv to to fall within your grasp, break out a map book and find another town cause it “aint hapenin.”
Funny how the football field is just a microcosm of the rest of the world.

December 13, 2008 at 12:16 AM #315091CardiffBaseballParticipantActually TG, Carmel Valley is Torrey Pines territory. LCC is basically Encinitas and South Carlsbad. Not all of South Carlsbad, but the areas around La Costa (i.e some of the areas in coastal south carlsbad are still in Carlsbad schools).
First CIF title tonight for LCC, and CC/Oceanside won as well. I’d love to see these teams play each other.
Speaking of geographically situated success in sports my wife went up to watch Sante Fe Christian last week in the volleyball state championships. SFC, CC, and LCC all won state titles in volleyball and LCC was ranked number 1 in the nation. That’s pretty impressive because it’s odd for that many schools in such close proximity to one another to be dominant at the state level. Also Tri-City Christian lost to a Palo Alto team or there would have been a 4th title for what passes as north county coastal. Must be all that time at moonlight..
