Participant
We bought an Amana white 25 cf sbs 12 years ago for about $1100. Moved twice and had the doors removed twice (in & out) on first 2 places. Had no problems with the ice maker or switches. I purposely bought with separate Ice/Water dispensers, so you don’t switch between ice and water, only between cubes and crushed ice. Also, simple mechanical slide switches, not those membrane pressure switches or levers.
Only minor issues: internal plastic water container doesn’t chill water to temp of refrigerator, probably too thick (under constant pressure); handles started to discolor and crack, but after 11 years of marriage, so am I.
Wife wants to remodel kitchen and compressor is starting to get noisy, so it may have a few years left, the refrigerator, not the wife…
Will probably buy a new one after the remodel, the kitchen, not the wife… although she does want a tummy tuck…
Lucky In OC
Dude you are a riot, rack that post!!! And get her the tummy tuck before the kitchen remodel, the kitchen won’t shop at frederick’s they all want that pre-kid stomach, it will pay off in spades for you, I guarantee it, when they feel good, you win. Keep it up Lucky, I’m still laughing.

ParticipantCbad, that is awesome, paid off at 34, the world will be your oyster, once you pay off, buy your first rental, remind your husband that lou gherig is the second luckiest guy on earth and Mr. Cabd is the first. Please tell me you have an older sister who is divorced and semi-desperate with a weakness for middle aged humorists, even if you have to lie to me.
Former owner, welcome to my hood brother, keep in mind the shorts can get frustrating and the repos aren’t all ready for prime time. Mine was in shambles, water main cut, doorknobs taken, closet doors, light fixtures, window treatments, screens, the price is nice but prepared to be more well known at home depot than norm was at cheers. i also like your style, it isnt about whether the game is rigged it’s about whether you can find your niche and outsmart the riggers, let your realtor know I approved, I like to think my approval is still required for admittance into the city.
scardey, seriously, true ownership is possible and should be your plan A. Buy less than you can afford and it will come much quicker than you think, if you learn anything from the boards or the sentiment today, underleveraging is the new black. Inflation will rear it’s head at some point, position yourself to be as immune as possible. Be like Cbad, after december do you think she will worry about gas or milk going up a buck a gallon, you don’t have to hit a homer but at least aim for the fences for christs sake.

ParticipantI’m with peter and flu, get something cheaper and get a 15 yr.
1 in 3 American homeowners has no mortgage on their home right now. Plan to not be the other two.
Having lots of extra cash when you are retired will make it more fun.

ParticipantTry pacific sales (there is one in RB), they don’t advertise their prices but I’ve found them to beat the big chain stores. The sears outlet that allan mentioned is also another great choice, especially for a washer/dryer who cares if it has a scratch or a dent. I’ll cast another vote for the HE3t, that thing is the bomb. Be patient, I picked up my he3t pair off craigslist for $750 for the pair and both pedestals. They were three years old and I had to move them from the sellers upstairs laundry room and rent a truck, plus there is a risk with anything used but almost every female relative of mine has had them for years with no problems and they love them like dudes like their harley’s, it’s a creepy loyalty but it was enough for me cause I don’t know the difference. I wasn’t about to drop 2k on a washer and dryer so it took a little work because they go fast on craigs, if I had to do it again I’d go sears outlet, when I was looking they didn’t have the one I wanted, they probably do now.
