ParticipantCa Renter- I really do appreciate the advice, since we’ve raised a pint together and Mr. Ca renter is the coolest of dudes, I’ll confess. I always expose way to much of my personal life and views because it makes for good reading and fun writing. Truth be told, I found a keeper recently, so there’s no need to waste any pity or advice on me. Of course none of you ever get to meet her because if she ever reads these boards or learns of my alter ego and what I have written over the years, she would certainly not approve, who would, mysogyny is a phase, not a permanent lifestyle. I believe people are a lot like sausage, the end result is pleasing but the process should not be witnessed.
You’ll be happy to know I didn’t use shark bait, however she is too bright to get things past her, after sending her some very written e-mails and one time in a conversation I used way to much jargon regarding r/e, she inquired as to how I know so much about an industry that i am not involved in professionally and where did I learn to write. Obviously I just said that i read a lot. Why do I always fall for the smart ones?

ParticipantI agree allan, I also have some friends who have not been affected at all by the current economic climate but have changed their spending habits as if they have. I’m not sure if it is out of fear, guilt or just a strategy but even those not affected are behaving like they are.
I realize i have changed my paradigm as well, the original plan was to take advantage of the situation as much as possible, be a hermit crab, take the house, car and everything else from the overindulgent in due time. After I stole some FB’s house, his car and wife just didn’t interest me as much. Either the tin man got a heart or the lion didn’t find courage, jury is still out on that one. Where the jury did come back is on the fact that no matter how bad things got or get, they stay the same, we are just people trying to enjoy the time between birth and death, the ups and the downs have their purpose. I better go to bed, the laker loss has me out of sorts.

Hopefully this returns Vegas back to the cheap little getaway it used to be with its $1.99 steak & lobster dinner, 3:2 Blackjack, $29/night room rates, and quality customer service. All of that was thrown out the window over the past 10 years, and I have a feeling that Vegas is going to need to bring it all back in order to survive.[/quote]I’m with you brother, Why is it a travesty that Vegas may have to be what it used to be, why is it a bad thing? I want old vegas back, I want 99 cent shrimp cockails, desperate strippers who don’t make $400 on a bad night, $29 rooms and casinos that allow cigar smoking. I stopped going to the surface of mars a few years ago when it thought it wasn’t the surface of mars and didn’t need to bend over backwards to get me to go there. I wan’t a vegas where I can go for a few hundred bucks instead of a a few grand. I want to drop hamiltons in the strip joints instead of benjamins. It had gotten to the point where it was as expensive as hawaii, I’ve met hawaii Mr. Vegas, and you are no hawaii. If you ask me, the transition that vegas is experiencing was neccesary and in the end we all win, or at least me and afx win.

ParticipantIf I was a celeb, I’d do the same thing, my hat is off to Seth. For a while many of us have talked about how being personally financially conservative is the new black. In the coming years it will outcool the green movement, seth is wise to pioneer it in the media. As far as anectdotal stories from the frontline (since many of my piggy brothers and sisters are married or shut ins, I will provide them) I can honestly say that underindulgence is all the rage in the singles scene, especially the middle aged scene. Two years ago, I was constantly apologizing for my mediocre ride and rental housing, I pondered a more age appropriate sled, at least a 5 series, probably a 7 series since I had broken 40, luckily cooler heads prevailed. Much to my suprise, the paid off sled and the lack of revolving debt or an upside down mortgage has become cool once again and I don’t see this trend reversing anytime soon. Living within your means is now sexy.
The dude rolling on 22″ rims with the notice of default in the mailbox, is now the one sitting at home wondering where those implants he paid for went. And the meek shall inherit the earth.
