svelteParticipant$100 every two weeks, takes 3-4 hours. 3000 sf.
We’ve used her for probably a decade. Never anything questionable – no broken items, nothing missed, nothing missing, very thorough.
We’ve got a house that is shall we say unusual…never any questions asked. It all gets cleaned. Sometimes I’d like to see her reaction to the various rooms though…not for the prudish or faint-hearted.
svelteParticipantTemecula is a fine town. We’ve had many a pleasant experience there…
The one thing I haven’t been able to get on board with is old town – maybe we just aren’t doing it right but it always seems to be a parking-disabled, drunken overpopulated tourist trap. But then again, isn’t that what all “old town”s are about? Sac, SD, on and on.
Wine country is awesome…can’t count the number of friends we’ve made there. Cherished memories for sure.

This being said, as a whole, FUCK the average American TV-watching sheep and FUCK the US mainstream media for perpetuating a culture of fear during a time where crime is down..
Have you ever tried standing back and trying to see how you look as an impartial third party?
svelteParticipantIt was a gen 4 1995-2000.
I know you have problems with logic sp, but if breakdowns actually occur they are not urban legend.
That was my point. How much risk someone will take take varies. Moms and dads tend to accept less risk than unemployed single guys who hang out on the net all day.

There is no denying that an older car is more apt to break down…that’s what drives the decision, not the trappings of middle-class prosperity.
Older cars do break down more… but stranded on the road is an old urban legend more reminiscent of the 1980s.
Yeah, an urban legend.

“According to California Highway Patrol officers at the scene, a Nissan was stalled in the roadway when it was rear-ended by a second car. “

svelteParticipantHi t0rk,
I’m a long time San Marcos resident. My kids went all the way through school here and we’ve owned homes here since the early 1990s.
Discovery Hills is a great neighborhood – excellent place to buy. San Marcos schools are excellent also, including the one in Discovery Hills.
If I’m not mistaken, lpjohnso is a Discovery Hills resident with small kids. You might PM her and see if she’ll give you the latest scoop on the neighborhood.
If for some reason you decide to widen your scope to other areas in San Marcos (not that you need to), I did a quick review of various neighborhoods in this old 2011 thread (July 27, 9:41 PM post):

Geez, have I really been hanging out on this site that long? What’s wrong with me?

svelteParticipantCongrats flu.
Your philosophy on tech employment is very similar to mine. Probably on life in general too.

I’m looking at the installer’s (Sullivan Solar Power) site. If there’s another way to find the info, please let me know because the numbers do indeed seem way too high (not that I’m complaining, if they’re right).
We have both west and south facing panels, with the majority facing west. And they do get shade at different times in the afternoon, and we do get some coastal fog since we’re about 6-7 miles from the coast (maybe a bit closer). They are Kyocera panels. We have string inverters — which I was lamenting until just reading this thread, if our numbers are correct.
For the record, 6/19/15 was our best production day so far.
These panels:

I might call Sullivan on Monday to make sure these numbers are correct. Agree that this would be pretty strange. If they are right…WE’RE #1!!! :)
CAR, did you quote your system size in AC or DC?
Good question! It’s 12,800 W DC, and 11,031 W AC. I used AC because when we were sold the system, it was sold as an 11 kW system. It’s also how it’s listed on Sullivan’s site. Would this explain the difference? Not sure how everyone else quoted theirs.
You’re probably right, OCR. If I calculate it based on the DC wattage, it’s more in line with everyone else’s numbers.
Sorry for the confusion, all.
Darn! I was hoping we’d be #1. :)
Great catch, ocrenter. I suspect everyone was giving their size in DC – I know I was. the revised number for CAR is:
6.8 = 87.31 / 12.8
which brings it right in line with everyone else.
It does sound as if she has 40 panels if she has the 320w Kyoceras.
We have 40 panels also but use the 260w RECs. We’ve got room for 10+ more panels, but it is looking like that won’t be necessary. We’ve been pleased with our performance so far!

svelteParticipantSounds like you pretty well thought it through, and I would say I would jump too.
Actually, I’ve been in a very similar situation and did jump…worked out fine.
The only things I didn’t hear you mention:
– how does going back to being the newbie sit with you. With any new job, there is a steep learning curve even if it is in a field you know well. My head hurts for months after taking a new position…I go home with my head swimming with new information…maybe I should buy a heat sink and CPU fan for my head when I start something new.
– this goes hand-in-hand with having to start at ground zero building up your reputation again. At my current employer, my reputation is so solidified that I can pretty much pick the plum assignments as they come up. If I jump ship again, those years of building that reputation gets thrown away and I will have to scrap with everyone else for the plum assignments. This is a strong incentive for me to stay put at this point.Those things are somewhat offset by the fun of learning something new, meeting new people, getting a new desk, driving new roads, etc. Ruts get boring.
Since you are far enough along in your career that your family won’t starve should the new position not work out, I think you can safely jump if that is what will make you happiest. From your post, that sounds to be the case.
svelteParticipant

Got 71.1 kwh yesterday with 10.4 kw system.
Let’s see how they compare
6.83 = 71.1/10.4 – svelte
6.66 = 35/5.25 – ocrenter
7.01 = 31.54/4.5 – montana
6.5 = 24.7/3.8 – ANMontana, looks like you’ve done best so far!
Also interesting that our results are so close together…looks like one can expect between 6.5 and 7 hours of energy on the BEST day of the year…
That’s probably on a crystal clear long day with zero clouds. Worst day will be much harder to compare apples to apples, since clouds will vary over the different homes.
On Friday, June 19th, we generated 87.31 kWh with an 11 kW system. On Saturday, June 20th, we generated 84.3 kWh. We’re about 6-7 miles from the coast and the panels are new (within the last year). I’m surprised our generation is so good because we have trees that shade the panels during part of the day, and we also get the coastal influence. Must be the orientation or the panel/inverter types(?).
I just checked. I got 71.98 on Friday
6.92 = 71.9 / 10.4
7.93 = 87.31 / 11Yours is way higher than the numbers others have posted.
Not sure the reason…a few possibilities:
(a) do your panels point due south? Supposedly the best orientation
(b) I have noticed inconsistencies in the energy reported, on the order of 3 to 4 kwh per day. For example, checking two sites for my house on Friday:
– My installation company’s website (sunrun) reports I generated 69 kwh
– My equipment company’s website (solaredge) reports I generated 71.98That’s a difference of about 3 kwh.
How are you determining how much you generated?
svelteParticipant.
svelteParticipantChild’s play. Everybody on my block has the security signs stuck out front. A very “me too” move.
Just puts you on even footing with everyone else.
svelteParticipantI was actually surprised at how close together the numbers were – less than 9% difference.
This is not even taking into account different brands, roof angles, etc.
We are about 10 miles from the coast as the bird flies, and we’ve seen a few days this month where there wasn’t coastal fog first thing in the morning here. I didn’t see much as I looked westward either, so I would imagine there is at least one day this month when coastal fog had minimal impact unless someone lived just a few blocks from the beach.
svelteParticipantYeah I’ve never ever liked a pope before, but I could see sitting down with this guy and enjoying myself.
