@ JES – man, I hear you.
Your second paragraph is an almost verbatim conversation I had with some friends last week in L.A, including the NAR press release! With the horrible new data on wage increases (or, not) it still amazes me that reasonable, intelligent people think that – in one of the most unaffordable places in the US (Los Angeles) – prices will still go up.
‘Oh, but prices will go up slowly’, they say. But if you’re looking for a starter home at 800K, then saying it might go up slowly to 850K over the next few years, isn’t going to make the place any more affordable if your wages aren’t keeping up.
speedingpulletParticipantLet’s just say that it was fortunate that she didn’t manage to find the gun she ran into the house looking for.
I have a feeling she was angry enough, at that point, to have actually shot the reporter, had she found it. And the outcome would have been a lot more serious than some drenched camera equipment and bruises.Thank god for small mercies…
speedingpulletParticipantProbably because the Excel file is saved as an *.xls file.
If you have Word, import the file into a new document and save it as a *.doc file. Word and Excel are sister software packages, and so support each other’s file types.
speedingpulletParticipantAlthough I found him too irritating to watch, I’m really sorry to hear he died. His young family will miss him in the years to come.
From what I hear, it was a freak incident – I guess a spine to the heart is too much for anybody, especially 30 minutes away from the nearest medical help.
Although he was decades too young to die, I’m glad that it was quick and that he died doing the things he loved the most. He knew what he was doing – having grown up on a zoo, in one of the most dangerous environments on the planet (Oz has the most poisonous native species of any continent). But sometimes wierd, horrible, things happen, no matter how experienced you are.
speedingpulletParticipantKnitting will be my
passion until prices come
down in Spring, ’07speedingpulletParticipantThe things I’m seeing from that part of LA is that, while prices are not coming down (or coming down by a few thousand every couple of months), houses simply aren’t selling. The 1mill+ places just aren’t shifting.
Lots of 100+ DOMs in 90265.
As to whether the sellers can afford it? I guess if you’re that rich, then a few more months won’t matter.

Well, enjoy my absence, I’m sure it will be a delight to some 🙂But not to all! 🙂
All the best on your new venture, I’ve enjoyed your posts very much!

LOL! – England, the Deadpan Nation. Easier to figure out the hand of a professional poker player, than it is to tell when a person from the UK is joking…
Being a ‘foreigner’ (ie non-SD), I’m looking for SFRs – 2+beds, any baths, up to 1mil, in Westside Los Angeles/South San Fernando Valley.
Indeed, I mean List Price.
I’m finding the majority of the List Price increases are in the posh places like Beverly Hills and West Hollywood – 3 of 5 IIRC. I guess the notion that prices can actually go down is even more untenable there, as a place in BH or Hollywood (the nice parts in the hills, anyway) has always been a huge ‘statement’ of success. There’s wannabes in them thar hills…;-)
I haven’t been to Zip yet today, but I’ll see if I can hoick out the MLS#s for the ones that have increased from last week.
speedingpulletParticipantTwo spring to mind:
“The Money Pit”….Tom Hanks, wrapped in carpet, hanging through a hole in the floor is a visal memory that still stays with me 🙂
“The Amityville Horror”…the reaction that many FBs will have towards their houses as we roll towards 2007…
speedingpulletParticipantStrangely, I’m seeing the opposite…of the 50 or so houses I’m tacking on Zip, 5 of them have had Price Increases over the last few days! Only 1 has had a reduction…
speedingpulletParticipantThat’s so cool sdrealtor!
Wierdly enough, I also remember learning how to ride my bike! I also remember the $ss-whopping I got when I wore holes the toes off of my brand new Converse sneakers , because we lived on a hill, and I hadn’t figure out how to use the brakes!
They were sky blue Cons, and my bike was a Chopper with a leopard skin seat…ah…the 60’s 😉speedingpulletParticipantSorry, no rudeness intended. However I’m on a Powerbook using Safari, which doesn’t play well with others…

speedingpulletParticipant17) When a listing on Zip mentions an open house in March (because the DOM is in the upper 90’s now)…..HERE IS A SIGN
18) When the same listing has ‘priced to sell’, ‘HUGE price reduction’ (of about 2% from OLP)…..HERE IS A SIGN
19) When a house thats been on the market for over 300 days and still has ‘Hurry! Won’t Last!!’ in the blurb….HERE IS A SIGN
20) When a seller lists at 100% over what they paid for the place last October, and still thinks stuff like granite countertops, copper plumbing and a ‘gourmet’ kitchen (…does that mean its edible?) are worth the 2x 2005 selling price…..HERE IS A SIGN.
