ParticipantActually, there have been quite a few things that worked well as investments that have showed up in the last two months. I don’t need to be more specific than that — Eve can do her own research.

Participantdo people lose the right to congregate in the event of a gov shutdown?
No, but does the 1st Amendment state that all possible venues for congregation have to remain open 24/7?

ParticipantShe said “old” as in year 1925. Deferred maintenance is a separate issue, and should be addressed before renting the place, even if it takes a month or two.

ParticipantIf you’re a US citizen, in reasonable financial shape, and the deal makes sense, a local bank will probably loan at 50-60% LTV without asking too many questions.

ParticipantGlad we at least have other worries to drive stock prices down and keep the panic at the low sweat stage.

ParticipantTranslation: the average car buyer wants overly complicated crap, and is so fucking technically stupid as to deserve a punch in the n@ds.

ParticipantHaha, “professional tenant” can mean something else entirely, something that we Do Not Want(tm).
Question is, would a clean, well-maintained 1925 house necessarily be a deal-breaker in North Park? I’d imagine that there’s a certain crowd who lives there to whom “cute cottage” would be a selling point.
All this being said, a dear friend of mine (the one who initially introduced me to the charms of SD), was renting a 1920s or 30s back cottage in PB. Super clean, smart as hell, professional — probably would be a great tenant, so at least in one example, someone found a great tenant for an old house!

ParticipantAs long as you can rent it and have the money to fix it to a reasonably clean condition, old is just old. Not the end of the world.

ParticipantYou always share power with your employees, whether there’s a union or not. By hiring someone to do something that’s important to the operations of your business, you’re giving up some power and giving them some power. Deal with it.
Your accountant could quit on April 14th 🙂

Participant6packscaredy: agreed, single-payer or public-option would be the right way to go.
Roll back Idiot Chimp Dubya’s tax cuts to pay for it. We survived and thrived in the 90s with higher taxes, why not in the 2010s?

ParticipantYep, new cars have way too fucking tall beltlines. Makes you feel like you’re driving a tank, not to mention making it uncomfy to hang your left arm out the driver’s window.
I miss the big greenhouses of the 80s and 90s.

ParticipantLock the animal in the lion cage at the Bronx Zoo, throw away the key. Disgraceful. Hope that soon-to-be-ex-cop can’t even find work as a toilet cleaner after he gets out of jail.

ParticipantOr just get the Scion FR-S if you don’t need four doors. RWD, available real transmission (not autotragic), and fun as hell to drive if not super fast.

ParticipantGoogled smog checkpoints, and apparently they’re voluntary?
Assuming you politely refused while informing the cops running the thing that they’re being recorded(*), can they do much to you?
Is CA really worse than many East Coast states? I’ve heard that CA doesn’t have safety inspection, only smog, and you can tell from some of the hunks of junk running around SD. CA isn’t a major auto producing state, so I don’t see why there would be any grand conspiracy — though there should be an interest in keeping the air clean.
(*)- recorded and uploaded to the cloud, of course, so confiscation of cell phone would just add to evidence, not destroy it.
