ParticipantI agree that some level of crime/terrorism/etc has always been the norm (remember the Haymarket bombings?). But just because it’s the norm doesn’t justify curtailment of civil liberties. Cr@p happens in a free society, part of the cost of living.

ParticipantEurope is slightly bigger than the USA including AK and HI. It reaches to the Urals, not to the Polish/Ukrainian border 😉

ParticipantHa ha, if the UN could afford black helicopters, maybe it could afford to hire more in NYC, lowering the unemployment rate to zero. Bring on the black helicopters — it would be a huge tax benefit.

ParticipantYou’re being too charitable: the average American is a mouth-breathing, fearful little twit. It’s not only fear of terrorism, it’s fear of crime (which has gone down in the last 30 years). I’ve heard people say, with a straight face, that they’d not go to a state which didn’t allow them to carry a gun because they wouldn’t feel safe. While looking like a heart attack on the hoof.

ParticipantWhy is that “ugly” in your book? Shouldn’t you think that it’s beautiful, since you’re out of the market and can re-enter at a lower price point?
It’s just a cycle. As far as TPTB, here’s to them getting roundhouse slapped, hard, with a bloody dose of reality!
A crisis might make Bernie a lot more electable than Shillary.

ParticipantWhy is “liberal” a four-letter word in 2015? Putting cost of college in line with historical norms and a base level of national insurance coverage for all (portable between states) seem like laudable goals. So are police and criminal justice reform.

ParticipantI’m not convinced of the state of his mental health at this point. His father had Alzheimer’s at his age.

ParticipantTrump may be authentic, but he’s an authentic bigot who speaks his mind. No thanks. I feel like he also might be going senile. Not someone whose hand I want on the nuclear trigger.
Sanders, Kasich, or even O’Malley, please.

ParticipantAnd perhaps mandate some level of durability and repairability in our devices. The fact that Apple makes it a huge PITA to install software on an iPad that’s only four years old is annoying. They basically hide the old app versions in App Store, and only permit download if they’ve been previously downloaded. There’s a workaround involving iTunes, but that shouldn’t need to exist.

Participant^^^
Lower rate of consumption = less CO2 output and more time to deal with the issue.
Besides, who says we can’t address the issue and keep our lifestyle? Electric vehicles (both cars and rail) are getting better every year.
If you’re serious about your short-sighted opinion and aren’t just trolling, it’s really a shame you weren’t miscarried. Because that’s what you’re doing — aborting future generations.

ParticipantIn an ideal world, Congress would pass a law mandating the death penalty for the crime use of fossil fuels for ground transport after 2030. Sadly, we’re too stupid to do such a thing.
