There aren’t any alpine lake-view cabins or even lake cabins (I wouldn’t call “Big Bear” necessarily “alpine”) any closer than seven hours from SD.
Shoot, BG, Big Bear Lake is, if anything, a few hundred feet higher than Lake Tahoe (6700 to 6200) — talkin’ lake level. And when you count just South Lake Tahoe, both don’t exactly have sterling reps for overall class of peeps.
In the case of Palomar, it is a haven for people on two-wheel rockets who like to show off how close their knees get to the ground. As the map shows, that street is right off S7, on the way to the state park. I’m not sure which location on the mountain is best for, say, privacy. I reckon some property owners have to deal with trespassing snowplayers. Maybe off the east grade a ways is best for that, or a ways off any main road.

smshorttimerParticipantI knew you’d come through, TJ. Coming back from a vacation in July, we got off 15 and cruised through Old Town. I think it was a Fri or Sat night. Lots of people wandering about. I thought that was pretty cool.
For whatever reason, living in Fallbrook for 2 1/2 years, we only went to Temecula for Costco/Home Depot/In n Out. Wish we would have dined out in OT at least once.

Thanks enjoy your home we do.
Just curious — food from which restaurants?
Another question for the T-towners: Is Old Town truly an historical type Main St.-style area? Or is a lot of “faux-vintage” development? That was my first impression many years ago, but I recognize my ability to be wrong occasionally.smshorttimerParticipant
Hi I live in Seattle…and many a vacations were spent …flying to az spending a couple of days there, (wondering why anybody would live in this hell hole) but my brother inlaw does so we go.
