ParticipantCAR I understand your point that the society in general benefits when everyone is provided with a better way of life, (be it home ownership, or job or whatever). I just don’t know if a govt susidy for housing works because of the differentials in each market around the country.
Really your bottom line is simply trying to give an opportunity to those who cannot or have not been able to get a home in SD. However spreading that logic to the entire country makes the playing field alot different.
It is a tough problem.

ParticipantCAR the logic does not wash. What about the working poor in Beverly Hills, or Santa Monica or Palos Verdes? Why is it fair for the govt to provide govy supplied homes for people in San Diego but not in Dallas? Does that mean the secretary in Dallas should now move to San Diego to get a govy home? Wouldn’t everyone do that?
Your justification that uber nice areas deserve subsidies just because they are expensive does not wash. They are expensive BECAUSE there is alot of competition for them. To say that well, the taxpayers should fund housing in the UBER nice areas is blantantly unfair.
Gotta be all or nothing CAR. Don’t paint a subsidy picture just because competition has driven up prices in one area due to an excellent climate.

ParticipantCAR you and I do agree on alot of points. I think the one point we do not agree on is that I feel as if you believe there is no affordable housing for people. I do not believe that to be true at all. I feel that San Diego and other coastal areas are quite expensive, however in no way do I believe that every major city in the country does not have many affordable neighborhoods. I have been on travel alot the past year and I have spent time in cities that offer nice housing for 70k-100k. Nice homes in nice neighborhoods for people.
So I simply do not buy into the hype that nobody can purchase a home unless they can afford a 400k home. It is not true.

ParticipantI agree with all of your posts zk. I think it is one of those, “to each his own”. For our family I found value in Scripps for a bit less then CV and the family atmosphere works for us. Now taste wise my wife would rather be a bit more rural into Poway. Anyways I agree with you, I think they are very similar, there are some parts about Scripps I like alot that CV doesn’t have. However I hate the commute down Pomerado with a passion!
