SD Realtor
ParticipantCAR I understand your point that the society in general benefits when everyone is provided with a better way of life, (be it home ownership, or job or whatever). I just don’t know if a govt susidy for housing works because of the differentials in each market around the country.
Really your bottom line is simply trying to give an opportunity to those who cannot or have not been able to get a home in SD. However spreading that logic to the entire country makes the playing field alot different.
It is a tough problem.

Guest
OT – I heard the Bill Gates thing from a few people.
Bill Gates was admitted to Harvard after scoring 1590/1600 on SAT, he had an exceptional IQ, he had a dad willing and capable of buying a developed OS for his son and he dropped after being noticed by some smart students and instructors and after the business with Paul Allen took off. His knowledge and skills were beyond college level by the time he dropped out.
The problem with those who cite Gate’s example is that their SAT score is <1200, they were enrolled in CSUSM, their IQ 95-100 at best, their parents' net worth is negative and their business is imaginary.
That's very good captcha. People who like to mention that Gates dropped out of college barely graduated or dropped out themselves.

GuestHow about having a more densily populated city?
Change the urban planning status quo.
We could allow homeowners to sell their lots; and developers to buy those lots and build more houses or townhouses/apartments/condo on those same lots. The roads and infrastructure are already existing and just need upgrading.
The sellers would make a nice profits and the builders would also make a nice profit. And there will be more new, comfortable housing without the urban sprawl.
