buffett wasnt gold neutral; he thought it was a dumb investment; or at least that’s what he said. I don’t know that this means it’ll do well, but it’s definitely a sign of weird times.

Empty apartments in Manhattan reach record high, topping 13,000

really, the cool thing about living in NYC, normally, is all the people. but if you don’t want to mix with people, it’s terrible.
still, 10% rent drop brings it down to, still astronomical rent.

Participant
holy cow, I posted go kamala go last night and my republican friends came unglued.
The garbage they responded with tells me she worries them very VERY much. I mean I thought Hillary got under their skin!
The biggest thing is “she’ll take away my guns!” followed by a lot of other claims – just to see what Fox would say I watched it last night…its like my Rep friends took crib notes from Fox News last night…almost word for word.
When I rebutted them point by point, they started in on false news about how she’ll abolish guns and many other things…I had to start deleting all the false claims.
The misinformation is at a level I have never seen before. It is just astounding.
The right is worried. Very worried.
Your friends are probably old.
Probably white.
Probably dopey.

ParticipantLargeish decline this morning.
Im not a charts person, at all, generally believe its worthless but the gold chart is interesting imo if viewed over 40 years
the big moves for gold occur very very rarely .
1980ish2010ish
Now.

Where does it settle after the volatility? Thats the unknowable question?
If you think its over 2k now might be a good time to make a move?
The trick isnt usually to guess the top. Its to guess the bottom.
Id say low 2319-2475, in 5.1 years, high of 3700, within next 24 m

Participant
Not sure it would fly in my house. My wife regularly goes through dates and purges our shelves of anything that is even a month out of date. She’s a stickler about that.
If I came home with a load of stuff about to go out of date, I’m pretty sure it would short circuit her brain.
Ill eat your leftovers.
I guess im lucky to have my wife. Shes ok with it, she just thinks i get too much. But it all gets eaten, even the stale potato chips which really werent that great. But they were just a quarter!!!! So i feel like its only a great deal if i spend 150 and up to get about 500 in stuff.
Otherwise not worth the trip. Since u rarely get what u need.
Do politics even matter. My life was pretty much the same under bush, obama, trump in temecula.
i work, i eat expired food, i nap, i worry about things.

Participant
Ordered my first 40 franc gold coin from a French coin dealer about 12 days ago. It was the last one I needed for a complete set of every ruler and republican government from 1800 to the end of gold currency. All the others are 20 francs.
Most of the rest are from ebay, but the prices on the last and rarest one was just too high on ebay. I figured it might be my last chance to buy under $1900.
There’s still more to buy, as I’d like a French Tunisia 20 Francs, Austrian and Hungarian 20 Florins, and a Spanish 25 Peseta, which are all exactly the same size under the Latin Monetary Union. I already have similar but not identical sized gold coins from England, Holland, and the USA.
The cheapest of my 20 Francs was 8% below spot when gold was at $1200 using a combination of ebay promos and a cash back credit card. I think they are some of the best gold coins to have for investment, as a few of them can be found for no premium above spot and they are incredibly hard to counterfeit due to their small 0.1867 oz size and very elaborate design. Easy to buy and sell too, as a $380 coin is just more liquid than a $2100 1oz bar.
The two most common of the series is the French Rooster 20F and the Swiss Helvetia 20F which was still being made into the 1950s. Unfortunately you can’t find them at melt price, but when the market normalizes they’ll probably go back there.
Good strategy. I like the low premium idea. It makes sense.I have been going with GLDM lately. But if youre going to hold 20 years, the mgt fee is a killer.
Ive seen the tiny coins. So tiny. .25 oz .1 oz. So tiny.
Watched INDIAN MATCHMAKING last night till 2 a.m. fun. Those indians man, they will need at least some gold to marry

Participant
Scaredy, it sounds like you got a good deal because that was priced for the food insecure. You should be giving them stuff.
Maybe it’s for the best you swooped in on donations for folks facing hard times, fasting is healthy and canned food is dangerously salty. You’ll hopefully not be actually eating 50 cans of “almost” expired baked beans.
:-}
I asked the mgt and they told me it was supporting their efforts to give free food to some to shop there, the store is not just for poor people. They give free food to truly needy.
They dont sell out, they get steady flow of old stuff. Its ok to shop there they said … not taking cheap food from the mouth of the poor … i did feel bad 1st time but they need to move mdse. Even send out coupons and specials.
We bought a lighting fixture thrre too.
They definitely dont accept food donations, not like that. Stores give them pallets of stuff that didnt sell
They have say 20 cases of olive oil brand that failed.
5000 off brand power bars.
Weird cereal wuth box crushed. Older coffee.
I got some sacks of older organic figs cheap.
People shopping there are mixed bag. I see a lot of people with many kids. Some vroke looking people. But lots of middle class types.
https://www.western-eagle.org/bargain-store/
“Simply by shopping you help others in need”.
Its a very cool place. Theres no scanner. The cashiers either know the price or guess. Theure usually pretty close, prices are pretty close
And amys bak3d organic beans are good. Last time i got 10 cans of amys lentil soup for a buck each. Thats like a 25 $ tax free gain.
I LOVE THIS STORE.
Requires culinary flexibility and complete lack of brand loyalty tho
