ParticipantI think even coupons are getting hit by inflation they used to be worth 1/100 of a cent but now I see 2 and even 3/100 cent coupons.

I did a 25 mile commute on a scooter for a while.
Bracing in winter.

ParticipantDevils advocate;
You moved away with a kid. Family always seems better and more helpful from a distance.
We moved here to be closer to family and got ZERO assistance.
The extra salary covers a lot of the cost.
I’d say it’s a close call.
I was pissy for a few years when we moved here to be closer to her family. I did not like it.
Now I do like it. But we couldve gotten divorced I was that pissy.

ParticipantMarines equal young, fearless, believe immortal.
Scaredycat equals old, frightened, sees disaster at every corner.
You are better at seeing trouble in life a few steps ahead at 50, and even more so on the road.
But I agree, highly risky, that’s why it’s fun. Still the risk can be managed. And that’s what the articles about. Training. For troops who may have a “superman” complex.
It’s fun!

ParticipantMany riders go an entire lifetime without crashing. Many crash within months of starting.
A lot of it, not all, but almost all, is operator based.

ParticipantNope. Boot on foot. Something really weird about a guy in full motorcycle racing gear on a tiny scooter. I had the vintage mint green model. So fun.
Vespas were newly reintroduced in the USA at that time. Early adopter in that case only.
Never came close ever to an accident or close call. Read proficient motorcyclying by hough a dozen times and practiced it on the road always. Great great book.
If you enjoy the sensation of speed , even a Tiny 150 cc vespa is pretty exhilarating compared to any car. I could get ot to 62 mph in full aero tuck. Looked completely insane.

ParticipantI like motorbikes. I rode a Vespa et-4 for 10,000 miles 2002-2005. That’s a lit of scooter miles. Et4 was the “big” one 150 cc. Tiny bike. Even rode it on the freeway sometimes. That was dumb.
60 mph top speed very short wheelbase, light weight. Feels like a rocket!!
Motorbiking is very invigorating.
Some people are way more likely to crash in cars, priiuses, harleys, scooters. Alertness and caution matter.
I still have a Honda ruckus. For the middle aged dude the motorcycle can really wake you up.
Although I am a scaredycat I still do stupid things sometimes. However I always suited up in fullface helmet motogloves, padded jacket w spine protection, padded pants and giant boot. Even on my tiny scooter. Looked crazy.

ParticipantI bet his back doesn’t hurt. America makes backs hurt.
In the old days people got ulcers not back pain.
It’s a new and weird epidemic, the back injury.

ParticipantAmericans live in mortal fear of back injury. Reason: we are so freaking WEAK.
In the old days, men were not waylaid by tweaked backs. Because men were strong. We have become unbelievably soft. So soft our spines literally crumble and we far damaging our backs by using them.
We must work our backs! Also have sons and daughters with strong backs.

Participanti am careening into 50 shortly. but my back is strong, like bull. 6 months of squats and deadlifts have made it tougher than at any time in my life. When I take a breath and brace my core, i feel like I can lift almost anything. I do not believe I will suffer a back injury. the weak link is this one tendon in my left leg. it hurts from time to time. everything else is like steel cable.
I have another year till i hit 50, and the goal is to continue to become stronger every month until then. AFter that, I hit the sauce.
