ParticipantI haven’t had the time to investigage Oceanside. Looks there they are building condos downtown. Do you guys think the area is safe with the bars and the roudy Marines? Downtown Oceanside is probably way overpriced.

ParticipantBack to the original thread topic, the firing of Rumsfeld was a closely held secret; otherwise, the Army Times might not have run the editorial and spared Republican embarassment. That might have affected the elections in Virginia and the balance of power in the Senate.
Had the president fired Rumsfeld before the elections, I think that the Republicans might have done better.
I wonder if Rumsfeld was pushed out or he voluntarily stepped down. I’m thinking that he was fired.

ParticipantNo, I don’t think that the Democrats voted for the war. That was not a declaration of war. They gave the president the option to go to war because they did not want to restrain the executive and thus give the appearance of supporting the ennemy. Had they voted against that resolution, Bush would still have gone to war and would have labeled them as defeatists. It was the Administration’s job plan the war and it’s aftermath. Legislators can only do oversight of executive but the Republican-held Congress did not even do that. Remember, Republicans controlled the legislative agenda.

ParticipantIran Is Key to Course Change on Iraq
Two political earthquakes hit the United States this week – the Democrats took control of Congress and Rumsfeld was replaced by Robert Gates. There is much speculation as to whether this can help create an opening to Iran. But to make headway on the Iranian nuclear issue, or on Iraq, the two issues need to be linked – something Bush and Rumsfeld have refused to do thus far.

The big screw up in Iraq is that it turned Iran into the regional power. One reason GHWB did not depose Sadam is because he needed Iraq to keep Iran in check.

ParticipantDo you actually listen to Rush Limbaugh? I can’t stand him for very long.
I’m ashamed to admit that I used to work for a company what took a chance on him and advertized on his show when he was first getting started. At that time, he was having difficulty finding sponsors. Advertizing with Rush turned out to be very effective because his listeners are maniacs. Everything that Rush endorses is godsend to them.

ParticipantWas listening to some of Rumsfeld’s notable quotes. I’m going to miss his colorful press conferences.

ParticipantIf I remember well, PMI was not necessary until the early 90s downturn. The losses at the time cause new regulations requiring PMI. Bugs, can you confirm?

ParticipantMaking it nice for the bleeding hearts?! Come on, Bush had all the power for 6 years. He could’ve done (and did) what he wanted. Don’t blame the opposition, blame the people in power.
Conservative always say that you have to confess and repent for heading down the wrong path. Iraq was a mistake. The least the Republicans could do is come clean and admit it. Look at Arnold, he did and won by a landslide.
Until Bush says that Iraq was a mistake (or until a change in the executive) none of our allies around the world will want to help us. The only way America can “win” in Iraq is with the support of the world community. There’s a price to be paid for hubris.
We are advocating freedom and democracy. PD, are you suggesting we throw that out the window and plunder Iraq and subjugate its people to our will?

ParticipantI read the brochure more carefully and 150k is not bad for 2 bedroom 2 bath.

Participant…. it’s like saying the Iraq government is “inviting” America to stay and defend its democracy. I don’t think that we are asking the Iraqi government “permission” to do anything on their soil. If the Malaki government doesn’t work out, we’ll “engineer” some replacement to take care of the problem. Democracy, my ass!

ParticipantI love politics and generally the drama of life. It’s better than watching the sitcoms.
It’s always fun to watch the most voracious morally correct people go down in flames. Very interesting watching conservatives asking for forgiveness for Haggard when they generally condemn sinners to “burn in eternal hell.” If it weren’t for their judgemental values, Haggard wouldn’t have needed to have sex in hiding. I’m not gay but what’s so “repulsive and dark” about gay sex? Such thinking causes lifetime suffering rather than saving souls.
A friend of mine is a PhD student in psychology. They are now psychoanalyzing Haggard. So I get to hear about the whole affair.

ParticipantI’m eager to hear the Senate results. However, I’m willing to be patient and not yet claim victory. Time will tell.
A deal’s not done until close of escrow.

ParticipantI’m not sure this survey is all that accurate. I have a friend in Indianapolis who tells me that 2 of his colleagues are sitting on unsold “investment” properties and facing big losses. Yes, they were gambling on RE in the heartland also.
