ParticipantI am glad you got me thinking about this. Turns out my kid did everything in the flowol 30 day free package, not to say that it is very hard, but he’s interested.
He is 10 and with January and Feb. enrollment periods coming up it might be good to think of finding a better match of school for him. At the least we should try to keep him close to computer science technology via some club and some of these things we can do at home.
I’ll be honest, I have thought on occasion that he is my most Asian looking kid, Round head, broad nose, big teeth, there is even a slant to his eyes! The other two are full on redheads… so there’s no competition.

don’t know… My kid’s still too young for it…Will check it out….
I just saw that the flowol stuff has Spanish options , which is cool for my family. Why the hell not a Chinese option ?

Participant

Interesting. One of my nerds may fit in well with something like this.Maybe the one who aces the state exams. Options are good.
It’s actually not a bad deal.. Computers are pretty cheap now. Knowledge is pretty much out there, and plenty of tutorials/self taught materials are out there in the open, along with code…
Maybe tedious for a lot of people though.
This kids OCD favors tedium. Time to get him off legos and mine craft anyway.
Thanks, You want to sponsor/ mentor him? LOLNotCranky

ParticipantThat post is just a little too self indulgent flu, have some pity on the rest of us with stupid kids in lousy schools.

Yay! 🙂
Very cool, Russ!
Thanks, but I see I posted on the wrong thread. There’s better context from my comment on the rejoicing homeowner thread!December 7, 2013 at 9:27 AM in reply to: Question for the Pigglords…. Overnight guest rules for tenants #768829NotCranky

ParticipantThe idea of multi-generational household living doesn’t bother me…I think it is potentially great. I just don’t wouldn’t want it to be an unnecessary quality of life issue for my kids. I have visited friends in countries where it has been very common for a long time. Many immigrants here can tell you all about how their families at home live. We have a terribly judgmental attitude about it. That is going to be a hard transition for some people to make. Making it one of many acceptable paths for consideration is healthy at this point…compared to hating the idea and fighting it.

ParticipantI worry about my kids housing/shelter prospects for the the future as much as college . How about a double whammy , an expensive investment of time and money into college and then poor job prospects, leading to very limited choices on where to live?
Sometimes, I think if it is a matter of having to choose between helping them with college or housing, the more prudent choice is housing. Having established shelter with low carrying costs early on could be more valuable. There are more avenues for accessing college than for accessing housing.
This doesn’t really apply to me because I had zero support, but generally speaking our parents generation didn’t have to worry about job prospects or housing variables to near the degree. I think it would be wise to consider making adjustments.

Participant
As long as he’s not acting like a complete arsehole, it’s frankly none of their damn business. They can be nervous on their own time and keep it to themselves.
(Along with other sexist/racist beliefs.) Anyway, he’s not self-invited; he was invited by a tenant, whose judgement you presumably trust enough to want to rent to her/him in the first place.
In short: as long as my tenant is paying, and no one in the apartment is doing anything illegal or destructive, I really don’t want to know who’s boinking whom.
I did not think they my neighbors or I were out of line at all when it happened in my rental. I thanked them and apologized. If a person is supposed to come through the landlord, I don’t care if it is sexual or not , that’s not the point. The point is how was the occupancy negotiated? You want people you deal with to act in accordance with negotiations. right? What is racist or sexist about that?

ParticipantAn unscreened, self invited male makes the neighbors nervous too. This is especially true in a “family” neighborhood.

Participant

CA renter,
Why did SDG&E quote such a high price for the service upgrade?
Was there a long easement through which larger cable would have to be pulled?I had to pay for a transformer and my costs were still under $2000 to the utility with 100′ feet of cable from the pole to my panel included. When I put in an additional 200Amp panel for the rental , the larger diameter 100′ replacement feeder cable was free.
Is yours above-ground? In our case, they only had to trench about 20-30 feet. There’s a sidewalk there, so maybe that was part of the problem? I was surprised about the cost, too. Based on what Hobie has posted, I think we’ll look into it again.
Yes we have a pole at the property line. Sounds like the conduit they had underground was too small or else there was direct burial type cable that was too small(I don’t think they do that really…but it’s possible. Could you find a neighbor who had a service panel upgrade done and ask what the process was?
For 3O feet, that sounds really high. Maybe see if you can contract out the trench and any new conduit and have them pull the cable to your service.

Participant
We’ve talked to her and gave her two options –
– Higher rent if he stays.
– Have him stay less. She’s interested in the second option. I’m trying to figure out reasonable guidelines for the “staying less” part.
Maybe she is afraid of you screening him. If he stays there you have to screen him. I doubt you have the leverage to do that if he does come over less from now on, but if you negotiate rent increase make it conditional on screening him.
I’d find out what his name is an google him at the least. Run his license plate. I know you are good at this stuff!
