I hate over zealous code as much as the next person. I hate illegal garage apartments even more.
Why are they any of your God damned business, as long as they’re not making excessive noise or parking in your driveway? Live and let live.
Live and let live is great.
If you’re building an illegal apartment garage to maximize rents after turning the property into a rental, you’re kind of giving a big middle finger to the neighbors quality of life, IMHO. Particularly in neighborhood that are zone R1 and nothing but SFRs.
People bought those neighborhoods to have lower density.
Airbnb is a good example. Cool service and a potential pain in the *ass for the neighbors. Near Disneyland, the SFR tract home neighbors have been basically turned into semi-hotels. Multiple families will pour into a single house. The neighbors have all the standard complaints, noise, trash, parking etc.
Live and let live is great, it starts with respecting why you neighbors are in the neighborhood you’re in. If you rank $$$ above your neighbors quality of life.
And many neighbors are just PITAs. The easement issue that’s been bandied around here with the EPA. The other piss ass fights neighbors want.
Funny you should post this today! The stuff hit the fan. I am going to update the thread I made about the neighbor and EPA issues at some point. I am winning the battles and the war today! Maybe the trouble maker can save face. It’s not my problem. It’s a good day to celebrate and maybe drink a little more wine that I would normally do too,
NotCrankyParticipantWhen I fought off my only citation, and it was a big one a grading thing. I had to fight like crazy. They gave me a stop work notice on the house I was building ,but I ignored it. I followed up every conversation I had with an email no matter if they answered them or not, mostly they did. I wrote Dianne Jacobs and told her I needed help with Code enforcement “shake down”. A week later I got a letter dismissing everything. It took several months altogether.
A few points I made , first I said go they could get everybody else first.
I also said that I verified that it was exempt work but they said not when I had an open permit. I said it has nothing to do with my house. Kept saying get everyone else first. That seems to be powerful with the right amount of stubbornness. Put it in writing right away. Tell them to get everybody else first. All these code compliance people skip permits too , if they have any remodeling to do.NotCrankyParticipantI hate code compliance. I hate greedy selfish nimby people. Go live in a fricken HOA or CC&R community.
However, if they are doing actual damage to your property, like removing earth support from a retaining wall , or if there are shared interior walls where someone could do damage by starting a fire ….it could be tempting to want them “watched” by big brother. Never underestimate a humans ability to get frightened.
NotCrankyParticipantI missed Feb mortgage lows but am watching now. I could currently get 3.8ish at my credit union for 2k in cost on a refi. That’s not enough. I don’t want to go with lending tree or something like that because of an experience with Aim loan where they refused my application after the appraisal because I have a 2 on 1. I guess I am wary of these kinds of originators.
I don’t know anything about this guy , maybe he is a joke to you serious financial types, but he seems to like up with FLU’s prediction for rates dropping this year.

NotCrankyParticipant
I don’t want this money , it’s way too much money to accept for me and it would be worse to win and try to reject a bunch of it. It would be like trying to be one of those free divers who go down to 300 feet or whatever but with zero experience beyond a little body surfing or swimming at the local y pool. It wouldn’t be good. I like where I am at compared to having to deal with that, and if I tried to win something, shooting for a lot less makes more sense.
Dude only won less than 500k , now dead.

NotCrankyParticipant

THe evils have the appearance of being caged….to you.
Please point it out if you see more clearly
Been through it too many times with you. Not again. Anyway , WTH would anyone say that evil that simply had the appearance of being caged is evidence of superiority anyway. Ridiculous.
NotCrankyParticipantTHe evils have the appearance of being caged….to you.

It’s sad to watch all of the conflict fueled by selling these empty
promises–again, on both sides–paired with the desperation of so many people who actually believe any politician can change their lives in any meaningful way.
Why do you feel the necessity to add “on both sides”. All that does is enable extremists by saying there’s an equivalent opposite side.
Come on, we are taking about Trump here. He’s been disavowed by the last 2 Republican nominees — John Mc Cain and Mitt Romney. There is no equivalent on the democratic side.
There is an equivalent extreme in the democrat’s politics but you will never see it.NotCrankyParticipantTo someone closer to center , these troll protestors and the people behind them are as embarrassing and at least as dangerous as Trump. In fact , after the republican primary is over , if he wins, Donald Trump will be the candidate closer to center by far. WIth the restraints the other branches will put on him he may be part of the most reasonable government we can have for the next 4 years. Until I see a Sadaam Hussien like clearing of congress, I am not believing all this Hitler rhetoric.
NotCrankyParticipantWhat is social justice a code for?
NotCrankyParticipant

sounds to me you’re making too much of the EPA thing…
I know of some people having to deal with Fish and Game over a creek… That’s because people call them and make a stink.
Unless you received any orders from them, ignore them; and proceed with what you need to do. They probably won’t ever follow up unless you keep on calling them.
Unfortunately we’re past that. They are acting like code enforcement. The funny thing though, If I can’t run them off the troublemaking neighbor who claimed it was a wetland, and another one who wasn’t as bad but still a jerkette, have the bigger problem. They both have already disturbed it . I’ll get my permit eventually. At least the harassing neighbor is being dealt with.
Young woman who was working on the survey that I was trying to discourage doesn’t email back. She gave me a date that she needed to extend the survey to ,which passed last Friday. I asked her if she’s reached a conclusion by the extended promise date, nothing.
Some possibilities , They just quit cause there isn’t that much effectiveness going on anyway.
They dropped it but don’t want to expose themselves more to the waste ,or potential fraud like aspects , involved in getting up to the point where they dropped it. Lady has been ordered to put nothing else in writing or acknowledge my comments.
They are just mad and embarrassed to be beaten by the lay person.
They are doing the survey no matter how stupid and how long it takes and are ignoring my contributions since I am no longer a facilitator. ( maybe trouble making neighbor is working with them)
My choices, Ignore and proceed, or try to validate if they are working on it or not. To proceed I make myself a little vulnerable because I have to rent expensive equipment and order large deliveries by trucks. I could in theory be told to undo my work and revegetate etc.
…or call them and risk getting something turned back on that they were in the process of forgetting about.
Once I get started, I am going to finish my work with equipment and trucks and fight it out afterwards with any party that wants to fight. IN court if it’s the neighbor, probably out of court if it’s the GOV. Maybe get a better result in the long run, even if we do fight. Pretty certain nobody can, or will, stop me midstream of the job.
That’s the way big builders like the current Casino builder in Jamul often go at it. I have done it before on small scales like this and came out unscathed.
Other than my neighbor shooting me there is no outcome I can’t live with.
NotCrankyParticipantSort of related, I guess some of the exercise addicts take lots of PEDS too.
I understand that elites do it, apparently lots of average hobby athletes too maybe even some slugs.Anti-aging clinics handle a lot of the doping/steroid stuff for them.
NotCrankyParticipantMy suspicions about the malevolence of the EPA, FDA, etc. is not concerned as much with overreach as with falsity.
