OT – abolishing the EPA

There’s a lot of talk of abolishing the EPA. But is that really really wise?

As an RE investor I’m most concerned with pollution in housing.
I would not want to live in or remodel a home that was built before about 1970. Before that, houses were painted with lead paint and covered in asbestos. As the houses get old, the building materials disintegrate and people breathe in the dust.

About lead poisoning, people knew that lead was poisonous for at least 50 years befoere any regulation were put on place.

Yes, the EPA should be abolished, or the Constitution should be amended to permit the congress to regulate the environment.

Each state can have their own EPA and I suspect already does.

The EPA has a thug mentality and undermines the rights of American’s.

In fact, I suspect the EPA is putting many farmers in the Central Valley out of business because of that damn delta smelt.

General Welfare Clause. The Constitution wasn’t meant to limit government departments to exactly those that existed in late 1700s.

People who want to dismantle government are threatening the rights of Americans to clean air, water, food, etc. We need a Federal regulatory agency of some form. Pollution doesn’t stop at state lines.

For every example of overreach, there are 100 of the EPA addressing legitimate issues.

The defense (from enemies both foreign and domestic) of the country is provided for in the Constitution. Not the environment -> that’s a state issue.

Blogstar, environmental protection is a weapon that some people use.
Your country folk neighbor maybe have called the EPA on you, but he’s likely for the its abolition.
I’ve heard of conservative country folks in Wyoming and Montana who normally don’t want any government interference, using environment reasons to prevent rich outsiders coming to build their dream homes, out of jealousy really.

A lot of times environmental hurdles are weapons of opposition.

But not regulating lead paint for about 100 years and poisoning millions of people is pretty unforgivable.

corporations were relatively rare items during the constitution writing. What would the founding fathers think of the ubiqitiuos stature today and the carte Blanche avoidance of accountability that comes with it for the shareholders and largely the people running it.

What would they think of chemical manufactured for mass sale and distribution that have lasting detrimental effects?

What’s would they think of corps poisoning the water with chemicals you can’t see? Can’t smell? Can’t taste? That kill you?

What would they think of corporations owning food crops and using the court to put people out of business when then corporation food crop contaminates the person crop ?

The general welfare clause is the power to tax – for general welfare and does not supersede enumerated powers.

Besides, the EPA was really organized via the executive, not congress. Positively unconstitutional.
