ParticipantSeattle Relo,
In my opinion you will get more sympathy here than angst. There is a little hostility floating around here. Many people will give you constructive feedback. Please stick around if you need help or otherwise want to participate.

ParticipantI was raised Catholic as well, until we were ex-communicated, and then I started thinking. I was about 6.
Unitarians love defected Catholics BTW. I don’t wear the label but it is a great place for “liberals”. I was told there was a mix of political leanings represented but I couldn’t really imagine it/didn’t take a poll.
The ex-communication thing is a half truth, a joke really. I don’t know the whole story. I was glad to leave.

Participant“What I’d like is to understand what could happen to all of us who end up seriously upside down in our houses. Those of us who can make the payments.”
You will lose money “on paper” if you stay.
You will have opportunity costs that aren’t the kind you want but that you can ignore if you want to..You will pay too much for your house.
(You can be glad you did not buy a 2 million dollar house.)Life will go on and you will enjoy much of it.
OR you could try to sell now, but in theory you are already upside down and would probably have to bring money to the escrow closing, maybe not.
Thanks for being honest and asking.

ParticipantCY,
I actually used to be able to “slam dunk”, barely . Now I am afraid to jump! I can’t spell entrepeneur,oh yes I can, anyway I probably are one. I have managed not to have a real job for almost 10 years to no gain. I have a few good ideas for what I believe are marketable products. I am in need of overcoming the inertia and ignorance to go out and do something that might at the very least pay royalties. I have a real estate license but have always been either a dabbler or on the sidelines. I look forward to the market changing to something I can get excited about. Mean while I will get my broker’s license. I am also a general contractor who avoids contracts like the plague, generally an over qualified DIYER.I do my own crude drafting of architecturally unimportant homes…very unlike the one you posted a picture of.NotCranky

ParticipantGreed is actually self preservation gone awry. I think it is just as possible that self preservation is going to lead sellers to go more in the CYA direction. If there truly is a scarcity of buyers willing to bail them out and they are also also playing CYA , which seems apparent, there is the potential “Rush for the exits” right there. Add any other catalyst, maybe even just foreclosures finally getting priced like foreclosure and we got a stampede. Of course an unforseen catalyst could work the other way too. The only one really being considered seriously at all is a bail out. I think that could help the market find support earlier but that still might be after some serious depreciation?

ParticipantI hear you CY,
Don’t get me going on religion. My irreverent streak will take us places you don’t want to go!
For the mean time I am being the best ecumenical deist I can be for the sake of my loved ones.
By the way you were raised way differently than I was and yet we both came to the same soulless ruin..imagine that!If I were to use a psuedonym other than Rustico, which means
“unrefined or lacking in excess of labor”, it would be Malcom X and I am a 6’5″ blue-eyed devil! What does your’s mean?
