God no. Please no. I think I speak for millions when I say that I am deathly sick of the counterculture sixties. The music, the war, the protests, all the hagiography – it’s not a reflection of the era’s importance but the self-importance of the generation who hung on the bus as it trundled along down the same old rutted road of history.. I’m tired of hearing about the boomers’ days of whine and neuroses; I’m weary of ritual genuflection to their musical icons; I’m utterly disinterested in most of the pop-cult trivia they hold so dear. We’ll probably be better off when that demographic pig has been excreted from the python so we can see the era clearly without choking on the smoke.
It made me chuckle when I first read it.

ParticipantSince you identify yourself as a young parent and tithe 10% of your income, I’ll go out on a limb and say you’re LDS. It’s not uncommon for young LDS families to struggle financially. I would say that’s true for most twenty-something families with children and one income.
If you are set on one income and remaining in San Diego, I would recommend ratcheting down the budget even further to increase your savings and future homebuying power.
Otherwise, if you are LDS, I would relocate to Utah.
I’d also pay for my own internet!

The average household income for a baby boomer is about $66k annually. Will that go far in San Diego?
What about net worth? For the wealthier 50-59 set, the median is a whopping $106k. That’s just enough for 20% down on a fixer upper in Clairemont.
The younger boomers with their median net worth of $52k will have to settle for that condo conversion in Escondido.
Are there a few wealthy out-of-town baby boomers that would like to retire to San Diego? Sure, but how much true demand will they represent when their retirement dollars can go so much further elsewhere.

I couldn’t agree more. I certainly don’t consider my cash-flow-negative landlords “suckers”. I think they made a bad financial decision.

The house that recently sold at 1090 Crimson in San Marcos just before the trustee auction appears to have been a pretty large short sale.
Countrywide held a first at $680k and a second at $170k on a sale they approved at $710k. The loss here is $140k plus expenses and carrying costs on a property they never received a payment on.
