ParticipantDon’t worry TG, the government will protect me from my own foolishness. I won’t buy ANYWHERE until I have orders in hand, and that won’t be until Feb-Mar 09. The stupidest thing I could possibly do is buy where I think I might be going, rather than where I actually go.
3 rules to a happy military life:
1. The only constant is change
2. The only guarantee is there are no guarantees
3. If you take the paycheck twice a month you go where they tell youThe moment you can no longer live with these rules you will no longer succeed in a military career.

ParticipantIt’s funny, I was going to start a thread very similar to this myself today. When I started following 4S you almost never saw a property over 3000 sf under about $850K, and ususally they were over 1 million. Now I think there are over a dozen of them. I really like this one:
http://www.sdlookup.com/MLS-086027991-10206_Cassia_Glen_Dr_San_Diego_CA_92127
I realize this is in fact $850k, but it’s quite a bit larger than 3000 sf. The Mello Roos are a bit of a bitch, but even so, if I had orders to San Diego right now I might seriously consider pulling the trigger on this one. Ok, maybe after a lowball offer of $750 or so, but I would give this place a very thorough look through.
Those folks 6-8 months ago who claimed 4S would never fall are looking kind of foolish right now. Havn’t seen many on the forum lately though.

ParticipantI actually checked on the IRS website, and even though we are a single income household, we still get squat.
I guess I’m not really complaining. I certainly wouldn’t want to trade my economic situation for someone who is getting a refund.

ParticipantI am getting skunked as well. The funny thing is, if they gave me the money I would toatally blow it on consumer goods the way they want me to. I read somewhere, maybe CR, that the majority of Americans plan to use it to pay down CC debt. I guess that works too, as long as they run their balances back up!
Come on America! Spend! Spend for your very lives!
