Participant

There’s plenty of people that don’t share your viewpoint and if you were to TEACH the subject matter that borrowing at 20%APR on a credit card is BAD, there is probably some J6P that doesn’t think that’s the case and there probably some other person who knows it’s bad but can’t help it for whatever reasons.
The problem with right-wing folks is that they are afraid of their kids contradicting them through learning in school.
They want to keep their kids narrow-minded just like them.
Right-wing parents blow gaskets when their kids come home and tell them about something that is contrary to the parents’ beliefs or behavior.
Imagine a boy coming home from school and asking his right-wing dad about gay marriage (a current topic of debate). The dad would start fuming and cussing. Next thing you know, the next morning, he’ll be confronting the teacher in the schoolyard.
Brian: REALLY?!? Tell me you posted this with a straight face?
Whether you realize it or not, you are one of the most bigoted, narrow-minded people on this board.
You paint with a very broad brush, and literally ignore any viewpoint that doesn’t exactly correspond to your own. What does that sound like, Brian? Open-mindedness?
Give me a friggin’ break! Among my “right-wing” friends, you would not last an instant in an open debate. You would get friggin’ crushed, especially if you got called out on facts, which you seem to have a huge aversion to.
You trash fat people, Christians, “red necks”, women and the “right-wing”, all while maintaining the Leftist hauteur that you’re somehow smarter or more well-educated. Smart, well-educated people are open-minded and able to see the truth, regardless of its flavor.
You want to change the world for the better and make it more understanding and caring? Start with yourself.
This brought a tear to my eye…I LOVE YOU MAN! ๐

2. Obese people. why not include social studies to include the contributions that obese people have made to our society. Obese people in school get picked on all the time. Even liberal folks like some people here (not naming names), who champion diversity, always rails against “fat people”….When does this hypersensitivity “training” ever going to end???
BTW, I’m all for a mandatory weight management class and teaching kids where food comes from and how to cook it. It might be a good thing to start vegetable gardens on school grounds also.
Obesity is manageable. The problem is that kids think that eating pizza and drinking coke in front of the TV is normal. Not.
Oscar Wilde was gay and fat. He was also persecuted for being gay. Add him to the reading assignments.
And thanks again for proving the irony between your claim to being a “liberal, all accepting, all inclusive person” and at the same time your view that “obese” people should be “managed”….(Why should obese people go through a mandatory weight management program? Why shouldn’t other’s just accept obese people?) You know, there are some people who are genetically “obese”….Not any different that some people who were born with a particular orientation…….
Corollary Rule to Life (that I should print on a t-shirt):
Everyone is prejudice in one shape or form or degree…Anyone who says otherwise, is just full of it….
(I’m not suggesting prejudice is a good thing..)
If obese people need to go through a weight management course then poor people need to go through a money management and motivational course.
People aren’t ‘born poor’ in the sense that they are genetically predisposed to be that way. It’s obviously a result of (bad) personal choices.
So, why is it that liberals like Brian want to hold the fat accountable but not the poor?

Participant

Our county used to have union bus drivers.
A little surly, been there, done that mindset,
but they knew the job and it was a union gig so
they wanted to ride it out for 40 years.
I am generally against union excess, but there is a LOT to be said for loyalty on BOTH sides of the fence.
I write software so if I want a raise I generally have to go find a new job, where I can market my new skill at a premium. My previous employer then hires (and trains) a new developer for the job for about what I got on my new one. Makes more sense they would agree to a decent raise, but not the way it works. OK in this economy if you have a decent job you shut up and are happy…
Exactly. Normal people, if they hate their boss or want a raise, just go find another job.
