ParticipantIt’s a no brainer.
First of all, your original plan is to buy this big house and enjoy it for a long time, right? If so, start enjoy it, will you?
Since you can afford the payment, why not stop worrying about losing equity now? If you look at it long term, by the time you retire (say in 15 years), the market will be well recovered and you can sell and retire comfortably.
Why people love to buy high & sell low?????
You should buy low & sell high!!! If you don’t see the opportunity present itself and you have the money power to stay the course, STAY THE COURSE.
Face the reality, you miss the peak and now it’s too late to make the most out of your house, so forget and forgive yourself. Live your life and try to enjoy every minute of it.

ParticipantIt doesn’t surprise me at all.
I have 2 friends who are millionaires. First one was a realtor, the other was a HW contractor turned small HW business owner.
I hope to join the club soon.

ParticipantIn my humble opinion, I think Encinitas should be considered.
Encinitas has good school, good neighborhood, close to La Jolla and it is definitely a great coastal area. The price is dropping by the day.You have options like these:
1280 SANTA FE DRIVE, Encinitas, CA 92024 $599,000
2797 sqfts
4 bedrooms
3 baths
4 days on market352 TRAILVIEW RD, Encinitas, CA 92024 $579,000
1800 sqfts
4 bedrooms
2 baths
25 days on market209 VILLAGE RUN W, Encinitas, CA 92024 $565,000
2329 sqfts
5 bedrooms
3 baths
89 days on marketWith the current market, I am quite positive you can negotiate some more, maybe 5-7% cheaper. Really depend on how despair the homeowners are.
But still, I think the market is not going to turn around anytime soon. I won’t touch real estates until the dusts are somewhat settled first. I foresee some RE bloodbaths in 2008/2009.
My suggestion remains the same: “Sit tight & enjoy the show. ”

Participantesmith,
I heard they said both Highland Ranch Rd as well as Highland Valley Rd. So, I don’t know… Hope KUSI is wrong.

ParticipantWhat about Carmel Mountain Ranch?
I heard from KUSI news that Highland Ranch Road area is on fire. That’s kind of scary ‘cos Highland Ranch Road is right in the middle of Carmel Mountain Ranch with many houses in the neighborhood.
I hope it’s not as bad as they reported.
