Someone has to do it IMO.
The death panels are here.not that thats a bad thing
I am all for it. In a few weeks, we’ll find out whether or not the lockdown was necessary. I am glad I am in CA and not in GA.

From a crazy f’d up white house cabinet level old man sitting behind a television screen talking tough.
Very ironic that many of these tough-talking, warmongers never served a day in the military. This dude is another one of those that probably got the college deferment during the vietnam war.

Participant
So why wouldn’t I take the forbearance? If there is zero or low cost it seems like nothing but upside. I mean seriously if you are arguing moral hazard you simply have not paid attention to the entire last decade. Every single entity that was on the Fed bailout tit has become larger and more systemically important at your/my/our expense. You aren’t going to fix that with elections, so the best you can do as a moral human is role with it and try not to drown in what’s coming.
Josh
Go for it. If this crossed your mind then that means you probably fear for the worst. It’s a prudent thing to take steps that you think would alleviate some of the stress/pressure. At the end of the day you must do what’s best to protect you and your family. The system is set up for people to apply. It’s up to the people on the other side of the table to make the decision to approve or not.
I personally think this bailout, like many before and after, is skewed to enrich the super rich. While the peasants get peanuts.
munchkin thinks $1200 should lasts 10 weeks:

ParticipantThe S should just simply own the E (wholly or partly) but try not to manage it.
Our gov’t should change the way it does business with startups that benefit from our taxes. Many publicly traded companies got their start via grants, subsidies and R&D effort from the gov’t (Google, Tesla, etc…). The gov’t should get something in return for it a la a venture capitalist does. We take a chance on your company and in return you’ll give us x% of shares/ownership of your company.

Unless it ends quickly anyway.
This may help speeds the recovery up:

ParticipantJust take a look at Amtrak & the USPS and then you tell me how well SOEs are working out.
The gov’t did get ownership of the bailed out companies via stocks. That’s how it was with TARP.

ParticipantIf you meant state-sponsored IP thievery to give the Chinese an unfair advantage then yes. As for how effective and efficient, or lack thereof, SOEs are; well, there are plenty books written about it.

Participant
“quite well” is relative. Shouldn’t the financial savior get the controlling shares? That’s how it works in the private sector.
State-owned like China? Fvck that.

“Should market conditions deteriorate, the Federal Reserve could venture into the stock market, several market analysts and economists said.”
Seems the FED made this a real thing today.
IIRC, the gov’t did quite well with their investment with the banks and the auto industry during the 2007-08 financial melt down (TARP). I think it’ll do well this time around also.

ParticipantGrocery stores offering thick plastic bags for 10 cents after passing the law to ban “plastic bags” was plain dumb. Many people are more than happy to pay an extra 40-50 cents a week for the convenience. I believe the net effect of this is that there are more plastics going to the landfill. I also noticed that more and more restaurants (esp. Asian ones on Convoy) start using disposable plastic cups after the banning of plastic straws. If these laws were intended to help the environment, so far it doesn’t seem like it’s working as intended.

ParticipantGot it. I thought you said one of your tenants didn’t pay rent.

Participant

Did they give you a courtesy notice?
Nope. Maybe in my spam box.
I hope they did. Otherwise, that says something about these renters (it’s not like they have to pen a letter and snail mail it).

Participant
In a previous interview, the acting navy secretary admitted that he fired the captain to preempt Trump from doing so himself.
Not sure I believe that. Saw an interview with a retired general the other day. He pointed out that there are 4 or 5 Admirals between Crozier and Modly. He wasn’t sure whey Modly didn’t go DOWN the chain of command in firing Crozier – unless every single one of those told him to take a hike.
Pot called Kettle black, anyone?
