Participant
Ok. How would you remove a disruptive, belligerent child from the classroom? Move the rest of the class to another room? Would any of you have behaved like this kid when you were a kid? We didn’t have cops on campus back then.
notify parents first that kid if going to be forcibly removed if they do not come down asap.
Then to remove a tiny kid that weighs perhaps 60-70lbs forcibly does not require black belt karate chops, just have 2 officers lift the kid out of the seat, restrain and remove.
The officer her acted like he was tackling some 250lb hardened armed criminal!!

Participantdecided to skip the new car for now, going to wait until next year. In the interim I could always rent a car through relayrides.com if I get the urge to do a Sunday drive.
Given the ridiculously low amount I drive I think the ala carte approach of renting when the need arises makes more financial sense as I not only get to drive various cars but also don’t have to deal with the overhead of maintenance, insurance and the headaches of parking (I have only a 1car garage and street parking in a PITA)

Participantsometimes Donald Trump may be over the top and one gets a little nervous about the way he presents himself BUT it’s not like we have any better alternatives… are any of the others doing any better of a job?? No.
So, we have absolutely NOTHING TO LOSE by giving this man a chance, he’s different – does not have a political background and perhaps we could see if a businessman can turn things around. The other candidates out there are going to screw everything up anyway so why not give Trump a chance.
One thing about Trump that I like is that people dislike him, yes, that is what I like about him because all the other lying, cheating, deceiving politicians hoodwink the public into liking them by saying what people want to hear. All of these politicians are expert liars. Donald Trump at least says what is on his mind without caring to be “politically correct”.

Participantwell, is this work that hard that it commands quarter million dollars in salary a year?

Participant
A few points:
Labors laws in USA protect all workers equally. Employers cannot work H1-Bs and not pay them overtime, vacation, sick, etc…
Exempt employees are not required to be paid overtime and vacation/sick time is not a requirement in the United States. H1b workers live under the constant threat that if they do not put in the excess hours and they are let go they will be screwed. This terrible creates a balance of power situation skewed horribly towards the employer reminiscent of slave labor.
Now, it is true that H1b employees are a hassle but that is why the current trend is L1. With L1 there is no quota, no requirement to first try to find US citizens and companies have carte blance to import cheap labor en masse.
I used to work for a company that started out with 100 L1 workers working onsite with a contract with Infosys, the current count is 2000. A huge number of American tech workers and consultants were laid off specifically due to the shift to Infosys. Immigration did not care!
The ironic thing is that very few countries in the world have such lax labor laws and a total disregard for worker protections. Try going to India and getting a work visa – good luck with that, you are never going to get one because it is so difficult. Same for Europe! I once wanted to work in Europe but discounted the idea because it’s very difficult to get a work permit in Europe.
These companies must be STOPPED IN THEIR TRACKS! The labor laws of this country SHOULD be made to benefit the citizens of the country, NOT to grease the pockets of corporations and benefit a very select few at the top. That is not what we want this country to be. We need to change these laws.
Unfortunately too many of the people in this country are bleeding heart liberals who want to give the entire world everything, if that is the case, then you have no right to complain when your salary eventually goes to half and you can’t get a job!!!

Trucks are good to if you need to transport big items. Trucks don’t look dated like cars. I have an old truck from my property management purposes. Always reliable. The downside is fuel economy.
I actually drive a 4cyl/5spd which gives 23mpg city and almost 28-29mpg on the hwy. The downside is that it does not have much power but with a manual it’s not that bad. Besides my commute to work is only 6 miles and I only very occasionally take a long road trip so it makes no financial sense to me to spend $30-40 grand on a new vehicle for not much driving around and primarily have a show piece, not to mention some of the exorbitant maintenance required by some of these luxury vehicles.
Also, I have a sportbike and when I feel like going fast I just take that out for a spin to get my Adrenalin fix.

Participantcars have just become so expensive I just have no interest in buying a new one anymore. I drive a 12 year old truck that is working just great so no interest in spending some ridiculous sum of money on a new one.

ParticipantYeah, recently I believe they let spouses of H1bs work as well so that effectively doubled the number of tech workers available overnight because most of the spouses of H1b workers are in tech as well. The interesting thing is that I believe the spouses of H1bs have regular work authorization and can move around unlike the H1bs themselves and they don’t have to prove the “american worker was not displaced” test…which makes no sense whatsoever, but hey I don’t make these laws 😉

Participantbeware of recruiters… many of them are extremely shady. When presenting candidates to clients they will organize the submissions not by the quality of the candidate but rather than the asking rate so that their margins can be maximized. There is a huge conflict of interest there.

ParticipantI’m surprised at all these high salaries considering it is extremely difficult to get a job in Software Engineering right now. A friend of mine has been searching for over 2 months in the Bay Area and hasn’t found anything yet. His skills are in Informatica and MicroStrategy. Another one I know is Sr. Java with 15 years and can’t find anything, a hiring manager mentioned that there were 50 resumes from Indian temp workers (who have creatively circumvented H1b laws) on his desk within a day for 1 open position…that’s where this competition is coming from.

ParticipantI can’t believe these figures, no software engineer I know makes $200k+ a year, even Sr. Architects are making only $150kish a year. Most Sr. Software Engineering salaries I have seen in the LA area in the range $100-130k or so…and there are so many companies here that do not want to exceed $110k, that’s with a laundry list of requirements including every hot technology listed in the job description.
The market seems really dead right now, my old company said they had 25 resumes in a single day for 1 open position, all the H1bs or the thousands of H1bs that are converting to Green cards daily.

Participanthow does one break into Android development? I have done a bit of it but not officially at any job. I just haven’t had an opportunity yet on a project.
