Scardy, you must check out filson. They have some great garment. Many of their clothes are still american made to pattern from the early 1900. Their wool products are top notch and their oiled cloth stuff could belong in a museum. But they take the requisite hard work to make it look right. Also, best made has some over priced gems as well, but I wouldn’t fork over the gems for their wares.
jstoeszParticipantIt sounds like an obvious case of, “go screw yourself, you are not getting one red cent out of me. Try suing me, because you have an unenforceable contract” type of situation.
Lots of people ask for money they are not entitled to, just because they ask does not mean you need to pay. If there is an out for you written in the contract lean on it, and don’t let them scare you.
I have no patience for people you threaten others whom they have performed little or no service for. And I am a consultant by trade. I would never charge a client for a service they are truly unhappy with.
jstoeszParticipantI agree with much of what has been said on both sides of the issue. There is not really a good answer. At the end of the day, sometimes life just sucks, and life isn’t fair. Sometimes some pretty serious stuff just happens.
One thought though. Calling the police usually amounts to just about nothing. I have first hand experience in multiple instances regarding theft of the police’s, either unwillingness or understaffed-ness to do anything at all. Both in CA and in MN. They tend to view the victim of a robbery as just a pain in their butt. A report to write for the stats that just goes down the memory hole.
jstoeszParticipantI think there is a dave barry latin term for that…
Ceteris paribus.jstoeszParticipantScardey, I think you are falling for the “all else equal” fallacy.
If all else between the two men is identical but the color of their skin. Meaning they have the same clothing, mannerisms, facial expressions, etc. I doubt many would judge the runners differently.
Now the questions is are some of those other characteristics fair to judge on. Seems to me, sometimes yes, sometimes no. Hows that for muddying the waters.

jstoeszParticipantdon’t know if you fancy wooden sailboats, but I have burned lots of time watching these amazing videos and reading great posts.

It costs a few bucks, but definitely worth it. The level of woodworking craftsman-ship (get it?) is impressive.

jstoeszParticipantThese stories blow my mind. I have nothing to contribute but shock and disgust.
jstoeszParticipantDing ding ding!
jstoeszParticipantWho can figure out what is going on with the carpet inset in this picture. This may not be the worst picture ever, but the house is pretty darn garish.
We are contingent on this house btw.

My experience has born this out. I picked up a 90’s maytag top loader on craigslist after a similar experience.
I hope I can always find parts for it.

Screw all modern clothes and dish washer water efficient models.
Front loaders tend to vibrate your whole house unless installed on a slab, and do a piss poor job of washing and rinsing your clothes.
On the plus side they tend to be gentler on clothes, because they don’t actually wash anything.
March 20, 2013 at 2:59 PM in reply to: I’m now officially Small Government on Police Funding #760779jstoeszParticipantI never really realized until this experience how worthless cops are.
BTW, I have tremendous respect for the job they must do. Most of us get to isolate our communication to smart people. We live in smart people neighborhoods, work with smart people, and are friends with smart people. I am always blow away when some complete moron sneaks into my bubble and I have to deal with them. Cops have to have intense contact with idiots on a daily basis.
But clearly their priorities are all jacked up from the top.
