ParticipantGerman cars are not as reliable as their reputation suggests. That’s according to one warranty provider, which has studied its database to reveal the makes of cars most and least likely to have engine problems.
Warranty Direct, which with 50,000 policies on its books is the UK’s leading supplier of direct consumer warranties, claims that Audis, BMWs and Volkswagens have some of the least reliable engines available.
Indeed, among the cars owned by its policy holders, the only engines to have failed more than Audis were those from the now defunct MG Group. In total 1 in 13 of MG Rover motors failed in the past year, and problems presented themselves in 1 in every 27 Audi engines. Mini was the third least reliable with a failure rate of 1 in 40, while BMW finished seventh (1 in 45) and Volkswagen ninth (1 in 52).
The most reliable engines came from Honda, with a failure rate of just 1 in 344, with Toyota in second (1 in 171) and, maintaining some honour for the German brands, Mercedes in third (1 in 119).
The company also pointed out the high cost of repair that can be associated with engine problems. In its highest claim, which was for a Range Rover Vogue, an engine failure cost £12,998.46.

ParticipantMy PPO insurance doesn’t have copay. Insurance pays everything upto $2400/family per year and then from $2400 to $5000 we pay everything. And then insurance pays 90% after $5000. Maximum out of pocket per family is $6000 per year.

ParticipantMy company just laid off 13 people. 3 of them are forced retirement with 6-month pay b/c they are over 65. 8 of them are lazy, unmotivated and unproductive people. Only two of them I thought are good workers but I think management got it mostly right this time.
We had about 180 people at this plant and sales dropped about 15% the last three months.

ParticipantYes, why consider changing from 19 mpg to 24 mpg with other SUVs? The cost of selling/trading negates any savings in mpg gain. Might as well stay with your 4 Runner. With the Prius wagon, you are going from 19 mpg to 42-44 mpg and the savings is significant.
Prius wagon, hands down.
ParticipantThe Prius V will reduce your gas bill by more than half. But you will have to put up with half the power and the all of the Prius haters out there. Some will say that it is like driving a coffee maker but you don’t double the gas mileage and not give up anything. The Prius V has almost the same amount of room as the CR-V. Prii are top notch in reliability if you believe Consumerreports.
You don’t replace your brakes until 150k miles. And 99% of their batteries (2nd and 3rd gens)make it past 200k miles.

ParticipantI am commenting not just about this case but for all traffic tickets. Hire a lawyer. My wife has four tickets in the last three years. The lawyer was able to get three tickets dismissed and one ticket fine reduced signicantly and the cost of ticket school waived. The lawyer charges just $50 a case. What she (her assistant) does is file a long extension immediately and then again if necessary (delay tactic?). Once she goes to court on your behalf, she wins more than half of the cases and even cases that are not dismissed, the fines get reduced much more than the cost you pay her.

ParticipantThis is one of the best area of Mira Mesa with quick access to the light traffic Sorrento Valley Blvd to avoid the heavy Mira Mesa Blvd traffic. 3 miles to Qualcomm and the biotech cluster. 5 miles to La Jolla and UCSD. I think it was a great deal. With 20% down, payment is under $1700/month.

ParticipantMonthly HOA payment for these houses is $165. This is rediculous for a complex with no pool, no tennis court, and no gym. What are you paying for anyway? I have a hard time to find any reason to buy a house in Mira Mesa in the high 600s with $165 HOA payment.
One can a comparable Carmel Valley home with $55 HOA.

ParticipantGreat deal, you can’t even find used 2011 Accords at this price.
bought new Accord today for $17,999 plus tax, title and reg.
Spreen Honda. They honored their carwoo.com internet price.
I’m just too scared to buy a used car. I cannot handle that risk.
And too scared suddenly to drive my old car with my kids in it.
.09% financing for 60 months.
Not .9%, but .09%. With nothing down.
I think the payment is $329.00 a month or thereabouts.
ParticipantCould you please PM me this guy name and contact, and business name? I might need to have my bathroom done near Christmas.
Many thanks,
If you aren’t changing walls around, I think an architect is overkill. Architects can be helpful if you need a building permit.
We did a tiny (5′ x 7′) bathroom and it cost us about $6K. This included new tub, new tub/shower valve & fixtures, new sink, new faucet, new vanity, (we used the old toilet), fresh drywall, minor electrical work, painting, subway tile tub enclosure & backsplash, and travertine tile floors/counter.
We used middle-of-the road finishes.
I would highly recommend the guy who did ours. He is reliable and meticulous. Not the cheapest, but you don’t have to babysit him at all.
