Participant@XBoxBoy: free markets would do a much better job of regulating themselves if they were allowed to fail. It’s the “too big too fail” bailouts and gov’t restrictions such as the Fair Housing Act that create a moral hazard.
@Arraya: I believe that the laws of economics are natural and not determined through the state. The state is supposed to allow free exchange of goods and services and enforce laws against things like fraud and counterfeit. This is somewhat similar to the Civil Rights Act and why I think libertarian thought holds human beings to a higher standard. We don’t get our rights from government, we get them from our creator. It’s the people’s duty to act responsibly and respectfully towards one another.

ParticipantVery broad statement with little facts backing it up. The Obama administration has been on top of the spill from Day One and said that they have their boot on the neck of BP.

You can’t imply that there should be more government intervention in private business and at the same time defend the government for incompetence when they say they are on top of things. You can’t have it both ways.
Rand Paul isn’t a joke, and definitely not a racist for that matter. If you listened to what he said and read up on the CRA, and then put some thought into it (this is key), you wouldn’t have a knee-jerk reaction like most who use sound bites and headlines to form an argument.
The establishment media and politicos see Rand Paul as a threat and they are pulling out all the cards (including the race card) to thwart him.

ParticipantUPDATE: We have signed up another Mediterranean dancer and are trying to line up some drummers. Here’s what it should look like (with fewer drummers):

ParticipantMy thoughts are:
(1) Secure your place, autos, and persons first with alarms, sensors, dog, gun, etc. I’d feel comfy with a Remington 870 and learn how to use it if you don’t. Hopefully you are in a split level condo with the bedrooms upstairs. If so, make sure there aren’t any ways for others to climb up into the 2nd floor windows. If there’s ever an illegal entry, you can grab the shotgun and guard the staircase. Be sure that your pumping (loading) of the round is well heard. Have your partner call 911 while you wait.(2) Actually try to be friendly with the malefactors. Wave hi/bye, introduce yourself, make idle chit-chat. They aren’t going to be in your inner-most circle of friends, but this can help to make things a bit more comfortable and will help your standing after step 3…
(3) Pursue all legal and non-violent means at your disposal to remedy the situation. Some tips have been mentioned previously. When the legal stuff starts to come down, the malefactors will start to make a list of the neighbors who might have done it. They’d be much more inclined to think it’s one of the other neighbors, not you.
