No more pooper scooper services will be offered due to plummeting demand. People will actually have to pick up their own dog's poop. Oh the humanity!

greekfireParticipantThe problems associated with driving conditions here in SoCal are far too numerous to mention in just one post (or thread for that matter). Needless to say, I have driven across the United States and Italy and personally think that there is nothing that unordinary about SoCal drivers. This is coming from a person who was born and raised in Maine for 23 some-odd years where the highway speed limit is 55. I am just about 33 now, and I still think that 55 is WAY too slow. It took driving from Rome to Florence to realize that in most instances it is actually better if you drive FASTER rather than slower. Drivers in Italy are well known to be some of the craziest drivers there are (drivers in India will have something to say about that).
I personally feel that all the slower drivers are the ones that create most of the traffic problems in SoCal. It may sound counter-intuitive, but you all know what I am talking about. It's the elderly person in the fast lane, semi truck driver, illegal immigrant carrying far too much cargo on his F-150, numbnut on a cell phone, or accident looky-loo that drives too slow and creates problems for the rest of us.
greekfireParticipantConcerning the 300 million population figure, there's this article from PopulationWar.com that talks about immigration and it's effects on the economy in general, albeit from a slightly different angle. All in all it is a pretty good article. A good portion of our population growth will be from immigrants, not from births. Immigrants are also expected to displace a number of existing workers, including women.
greekfireParticipantBrooke,
I think you can run a cron job to do auto backups of your Drupal MySQL database. I have not done this yet myself, but have been meaning to do so. If you find an easy way to do it, let me know.
greekfireParticipantWhy did we attack Hitler's Germany during WWII? Afterall, it was the Japanese, not the Germans, who attacked us at Pearl Harbor. Would you care to extend your same analogy to that time and place? Do you think it would have worked? I think "Wir würden alle Deutsches jetzt sprechen." = We would all be speaking German now.
It is truly ironic that those who don't want the US to go to war exclaim that we should focus more on Afghanistan and North Korea. And I will bet you all a dollar that when we do confront nations like North Korea, these same kool-aid imbibers will cry out that it was premature, and will criticize us every step of the way. Dambed if you do, dambed if you don't.
greekfireParticipantI can understand the discrepancy between the words “expected” and “at risk”, but come on. It sounds like your arguments are based soley on semantics. Why not point out a few type-o’s while you’re at it?
I have read the article in question and it is quite obvious, even to the most casual observer, that it’s tone is one of caution and regret for making the risky decision of buying a home with an ARM. It’s that simple. I could include actual phrases from the article to backup my claim, but don’t take my word for it – read it yourself…for a 3rd time if you have to.
September 25, 2006 at 10:26 PM in reply to: Spy Agencies Say Iraq War Worsens Terrorism Threat #36425greekfireParticipantPerry, I appreciate the passion in your beliefs, but you should try a bit harder to be non-partisan. Yes, there are several points that can be made about why we should not have gone to war in Iraq. I remember saying to myself at the time that there were more reasons for going than merely the WMD argument that we were being proffered. Any clear-thinking person would understand that there are often many reasons for undertaking a complicated venture such as a war. To constantly throw your hands in the air and cry, "But there were no WMD!!!s" is a weak attempt at justifying your beliefs; especially considering many Democrats and other nations were confirming the WMD claim…and the UN voted for UN Resolution #17 against Iraq.
It is one thing to say that you are trying to be non-partisan, it's another to actual be it. Believe me, I don't agree with a lot of things that this administration has done. I also do not agree with how they've prosecuted the Iraq War…I think they should've used even more force. But you have to understand that the media needs to sell newspapers, adspace, or just get more viewers, and the best way to do that is to stick to the basics – death, violence, sex, etc. Building schools, repairing water or electrical infrastructure, or freeing a people (especially women) from decades of opression aren't covered in the media because there's no money in it.
I surmise that you are an educated person, and that you can see the media's angle from a mile away…especially if it's slanted to the right. Take off your blinders and try to see it from the other side. Then you'll be able to recognize that this report, based on it's scope, findings, and timing, is likely an attempt to affect the upcoming mid-term elections. Nothing more, nothing less.
My question to you is have you questioned the validity and sources of the report prior to taking it as gospel? Please explain to all of us how you dismiss the intelligence reports that came out before the Iraq War which statedthat Iraq was trying to obtain WMDs; yet you are so quick to put your name behind these recent intelligence reports that criticize the same Iraq War?
greekfireParticipantGreat video, Waiting Hawk. Kudos to Dave Rothenbuehler of Pacific Mercantile Bank for giving a straight take on the housing situation in OC. He basically said that prices are out of control, that people can’t afford them, and that they need to come down to a more realistic level. He also predicted housing inventory there increasing from about 7.5 months to 9.5 months.
greekfireParticipant10% or 11% of something is not an insignificant number! I came across the chart below from the Bank of England website. Although it's not America, England has gone through a similar, more-pronounced housing bubble; which some feel may foreshadow what's to come in the States.

greekfireParticipantIf you check out NAR’s website, and look under David Lereah’s presentations, he states that the peak was in August 2005. Whether this is peak sales or prices, I am not sure.
September 18, 2006 at 4:26 PM in reply to: I cant take it anymore! It’s a TRACT house not a TRACK house #35723greekfireParticipantFrom a FedEx commercial:
“Steely Dan is not one person,” berates one guy. "We get fringe benefits, not French benefits, it’s not the Leaning Tower of Pizza, and James Dean was an actor—Jimmy Dean makes sausages.” The guy is then told that he’s wrong by thinking that FedEx ground is too expensive. “So we don’t get French benefits?” he replies.
Classic.
greekfireParticipantLendingbubble, your statement is patently false and misleading – it's supposed to be "more nervous than a 10 year old at Neverland Ranch."
greekfireParticipantI didn't go to the first one, so I'd like to try to make it to this one. Encinitas works great for me. T-shirt slogan? Here are some examples:

Homeowners, you can't say you weren't warned.greekfireParticipantI would recommend taking the full 180 days and doing as much research as you can. I don’t know what you’re personal interests and goals are, but I prefer SD County to LA County. I actually worked in Burbank inspecting their roads and have been in the area you are talking about. I thought it was kind of cool to see & hear the planes fly so close overhead, but I don’t live there and imagine it must get old after a while.
You wouldn’t happen to work in the public safety profession, would you? I remember (back around the fall of ’05) stopping and meeting a nice lady while I was inspecting roads there. She was waliking her dog near Pacific Park and said she was working with the police department.
