ParticipantImagine what would happen to their population if we engaged in a huge trade war with China. The Shanghai index would TANK and all the millions of peasants savings that have been dumped into the market would vanish. The Chinese would have a real political mess on its hands. They are worried about it already as you can see by the increase capital gains taxes, etc. they are implementing on almost a weekly basis to cool down the stock market.

ParticipantOkay my statement wasn’t the best…regardless, don’t those figures only include bank originated funding and not those deals done through mortgage brokers? If I am wrong clarify. And no half the mortgage brokers out there aren’t out of business but they aren’t doing many deals in Socal right now.
Could another explanation be than in light of the challenging loan business now, people are writing several apps to several lenders trying to find a loan product that works?

ParticipantAwful lot of SD bashing going on. I feel like I have to defend my town! I have lived in the soulful places with tons of culture. From my perspective it gets tiring, and stressful, and unenjoyable. Sure New York is a great town but I could never deal with the crowded spaces, dense population etc. Sure Paris is great but I could never deal with…well…Parisians. San Diego has it’s place. It’s a laid back, easygoing, place that is not as crowded and not as stressful.
And I think a lot of people who move here agree with it. They talk about the lack of culture, museums, etc. but it’s still so hard for them to move away.

ParticipantDon’t those origination figures only apply to bank originating funding? Aka now that half the mortgage broker business is out of business more loans are being directly funded at banks. Hence the rise…?

ParticipantThis would crash the US economy which is the principle source of business for China. This doesn’t serve China whatsoever and would draw them into deep recession as well. I think there is historical precident (has happened before) for this but can’t recall which countries were involved.

ParticipantFair enough…In comparison to cities like Chicago, New York, San Francisco I see your point. Regarding food there is, imho, plenty of good cuisine here but yes it is the highend. Unless you like Mexican (love it) which there is plenty of good cheap stuff around. I agree about your part on Balboa museums. I don’t really go there for that, it’s more about walking around the park, the zoo etc. that I find so enjoying. I have been a 10+ year season ticket holder to the Old Globe and have always enjoyed the productions (many going on to Broadway). Plus we good get our fair share of productions from Broadway. But again, at the end of the day, this isn’t a cultural mecca. It’s all about the weather. Oh and I can’t stand the food or the clubs in the Gaslamp.
That’s why I spend 4+ weeks a year abroad. Usually Europe. But this year it’s 3 weeks in Japan and China (First time to Asia!!!) in October and then 2 weeks in the BVI on a sailboat (ok not very cultured, but great way to unwind!)…
Oh and Avenue Q was hilarious!!!
